behind this.. i.e part of the OBC(onboard computer) there is a small 30mmx30mm fan. this fan gets noisy and buzzes. i think the fan is used by the obc to draw air for temperature display.

The temp sensor for the OBC is not even inside the car its either in the nearside brake cooling duct or attached to the front panel dependant on the age of your e30.
I've never seen or heard of a little fan in the area you are talking about :?
Maybe its something fitted to cars made for warmer climates than ours?

its strange... even the local bmw breakers yard never knew about the fan.. till i pointed it out. its exact position is behind the obc..below the buttons.

wait a minute... is it not for the climate control....hmm..lemme look at realoem.com, cant seem to find the fan specified... will have to send a pic sometime...

It's quite reassuring how all my car's problems seem to be coming up on this thread! Thought mine was the only one. Are we trying to drive down the prices of our cars by listing all this lot? :D

Wheel bearings
Propshaft coupling
Gear shift bushes
Rubber intake boot
Those pistons on the front seats dying and the seat falling back easily
The driver's side bolster wearing on the seat (bit unfair I suppose, hard for the designers to get round that one)
Rear subframe bushes dying
Rear topmounts dying
Leaking boot

And loads more. But she handled like a dream before her accident, and will again after the date with Beardymat's jig :D (will find out on Monday if the chassis is bent, so wish me luck!)

i find the car shakes when im lifting the clutch, something tapping together, why does that happen? only happens when ive been driving for a while and using the clutch too much to hold the car on a hill.

btw... has anyone here ever overhauled/repair their heater valves? my heater works intermittently... sticky valve..

what are the steps in doing the repair? where physically are the valves? is it a job for me old favourite 600grit sandpaper?

ciao

How could I have omitted to say this..has been the same in every E30 I have had (4 to date) !!

The bloody kick panel or whatever it's called, that you get your toe stuck on when changing gear and drops down onto the furrkin pedals trapping your left foot until you have to do a tricky manouvre (usually at high speed!) and push it back up with your right foot. Furrkin nightmare.

Once the bugger has snapped one of the clips it becomes a recurring problem even when supported with tape.

the switch is worn, so when you take your foot off the brake pedal it doesnt close the switch.. therefor it doesnt put the lights out. Do like me, and glue a nut or something on the contact point of the switch...problem solved, till you can find a new switch winkeye :thumb:

I thought that was a useful feature on mine, it suprises me that 20 years on its only just starting to be wide-spread on new cars :?

You could always try a bit of maintenance! Adjust the brake pull rod across the car behind the heater box!
