Would really appreciate help as I'm a bit miserable
Since that list of stuff, it's had a new blue temp sender, new rear-subframe bushes, new rear shocks, and a new brakelight microswitch

Hard cos I trust the garage, and they're going to the trouble of sourcing second hand parts for me, rather than new ones, and I got the car in at 10 minutes notice. And I hopefully won't be paying. They are good guys - when they've had second-hand parts lying around before, they've put them on for free. It just is quite a big job and I don't have anywhere to do it, and I need the car back soon, and I don't have the time to find the parts myself.Ziggy wrote:The problem you've got is that a 4-door 320i isn't a desirable model, no matter how nice it is...
Try very hard to get the money out of the person that drove into you, & if you can't get enough to pay the (frankly ridiculous) garage price for it, do it yourself. Sure there's plenty of willing hands about to help...
I don't think claiming on the insurance will be worthwhile for you.

Well thanks for the opinions so far, anyone prepared to go higher than £500? Really shocked by that. Anyway, I'm hoping that the money I've spent on repairs will count for something if it's assessed by the insurers.

Insurers'll offer you book price, which will be p1ss poor - but it's definately do-able yourself... get Jon to lend a hand / some tools (& some space even). I'll be up at his next weekend so I may even have a chance to help!Firefly2005 wrote:But I want this one**throws teddy out of pram**

Good advice Ziggy - have I met you in real life yet? You confused the hell out of me when you mentioned the wing mirror! So you're the guy who gave it to Jon who gave it to me... all makes sense now. Will look into it. Definitely money first then. And then pocket it and do the work myself, or just let the garage do it... more flexibility then. Feeling a bit better now...Ziggy wrote:Insurers'll offer you book price, which will be p1ss poor - but it's definately do-able yourself... get Jon to lend a hand / some tools (& some space even). Or failing that you'll be able to source the parts for notalot & you'll be able to get a better quote from a garage for sure. I'd concentrate on trying to get the cash first...

Nope - never met ya, so I thought it may confuse you a bit!Firefly2005 wrote: Good advice Ziggy - have I met you in real life yet? You confused the hell out of me when you mentioned the wing mirror! Likely to have an insurance claim coming up after someone ran into my rear wheel and destroyed the wheel, trailing arm and rear subframe. Any estimates on what someone on the zone would pay for the car shown in the link below? It's looking cleaner now, having been intensively cleaned up. Just want to know what ballpark figure I should be aiming for in write-off claim before buying it back and repairing it.

From seeing previous insurance threads I'd learnt not to register a claim through my own insurer. I have notified them though, but told them I may drop it if she wants to keep it out of insurance. At present I'm not allowed to call her parents - she won't give me the number. She seems to be nervous about telling her parents she caused £700 of damage to a parked carboomer wrote:Likely to have an insurance claim coming up after someone ran into my rear wheel and destroyed the wheel, trailing arm and rear subframe. Do not go through your insurance - go through hers as she has admitted liability
A similar thing(ish) happened to me late 2005 - what follows is my first letter to her insurers
My Address
13th December 2005
Her Insurers address
Dear Sirs,
Policy Reference:The other parties policy number
On Monday 12th December at approx 13:00 hours Miss ****** of *************, who is covered by the above referenced policy, whilst driving her vehicle (Red Vauxhall Astra 1.6i Estate: Registration ******), struck my vehicle causing damage to the front left wing, lower valence, headlight surround and bumper while trying to exit Sainsbury's car park in Broadstairs, Kent. (see attached photographs).
My vehicle is a metallic silver BMW 320i, registration F******.
The collision occurred as Miss *****, on approaching what is effectively a T junction which exits onto the main access road within the car park, panicked when she saw my car in front of her and stepped on the accelerator rather than the brake thus crossing the white stop line and colliding with my vehicle.
I had seen her approach at speed and had applied my brakes immediately prior to the collision
Miss ***** has confirmed to me (and to yourselves) that she is totally at fault and claims full liability for all subsequent repair and other related costs.
The vehicle will be available for your inspection at my home address from Friday16th December 2005 onwards.
I would point out that I am eager to get this matter resolved quickly and if you declare the vehicle uneconomical to repair I would be prepared to purchase the vehicle from yourselves as part of the settlement.
I look forward to your early reply.
Yours faithfully,
Me
It took a further letter along the same vain and a few phonecalls to her insurer's call centre to get their first offer - They offered £750 for me just to go away
Try it and see what happens
If you go through your own insurers then you will have registered a claim.
By going through hers then it will not affect your ncd but remember to tell yours afterwards.
Round 2 was the related costs - took a bit longer but they paid up another £600.
All is not lost
HTH

£1800 to have the trailing arm and cross-member replaced. Don't think that'll be happening there, but should give me ammunitionmarch109 wrote:10 being the most or the least?
