Got my car back! Kind of wish I had'nt!

As you may have read previously, my car was stolen last month and recovered a week later following an accident.

My insurance company have now sorted out a settlement and after agreeing a buy back price (the car was classified as a cat C write off) yesterday, the car was delivered back to me this morning.

From initial inspection tonight, the damage list is as follows (to be honest, I'm surprised the car was only classed as a cat C!):

Front bumper, valance, grill, headlamp, fog lamp, front passenger side wing, door, smashed windscreen, drivers door damage, various bits and bobs broken and (and this was missed by the insurance company!) ..... the floor pan caved in about by about 3 inches on the under side area covering the front seats and rear foot wells. The damage is slightly weird because the exterior sills look perfect but if you get right underneath the car (or pull the seats forward inside the car) you can see the extent of the damage to the shell and other components. It looks like the car was beached on a barrier or something during the accident.

With my spare 318is going to it's new owner tomorrow, it looks like my E30 days are over

what is it, another 318is? maybe find a better shell and swap the 'is' goodies over? though i suspect it'll be a bit heartbreaking if you were attached to the car and it wasn't you who damaged it.

A freind of mine had his pulsar jacked and most of the damage came from the time it was in the [f**king useless Cov] Police yard.. They lost the keys so dragged it to a scrappy (recovery place, myeh) who gave it a right working over, breaking lights and denting panels.

Yes, it was a 318is - it's the one in the avatar (taken when it was perfect!).

I've checked the damage again today and it seems that the car has run over something big (roadside barrier?) from the front end to about halfway down the car.

The car did'nt escape the curse of the salvage yard though - a few bits (including a perfect tool kit in the boot) seemed to go awol during it's storage time

Looks like I'm going to start breaking the car over the next few weeks - I'll post details in the parts for sale section when I start.

woudnt surprise me if the floor damage was causd by forklifts in a salvage yard as this seems to be the industry standard for moving cars around even if they can move under their own power.i repair a lot of salvage cars and its normal for vehicles to pick up extra damage during the various forms of transportation after the initial incident.the worst is usually from the numpty with the big toy getting paid mininum wage to shift things from point a to point b.
