I've had german plates for over a year now and never get any bother on local roads in scotland. Got stopped just outside manchester couple of weeks ago, second time i've been stopped now, £30 fine.

They told me they were cracking down on it big time now because more and more folk are putting them on to avoid speed cameras.. The big problem is if you have got the 'D' on them (which i have) Don't think youll get any bother if it's german plates but without the D!! :?

You must be unlucky!!! What area you in??

I've had mine on for a good six months now and do a lot of mileage. Have had 'words' with the old bill a few times since the plates went on and they've never even commented on them!! And the reg is spaced wrong!!

There's a loop hole for this. German plates are fine if they're spaced correctly!

Both times that I have been stopped they told me that if it had just been the spacing i wouldn't have got stopped. But they both said the D on the plates was 'completely illegal' cos the scameras show it as aforeign car and throw tickets out so people deliberately putting them on now to avoid fines.

I've taken them off my E30 now cos can't be bothered with the grief (did tell them just been to car show lol but got the 'must put them on when u get there!!' story.)

First time I got stopped I got no fine but told they'd write to dvla and if it happened again i'd lose the plate!!

Blob, i'm in scotland and get no bother with them up here. Both times i've been stopped have been on the motorway round about manchester, and as i'm down there fairly frequent can't be bothered with the grief :x

Ive got them, and know that you CAN get caught on camera. 101 in a 70. ouch. Mine have the D and they are correctly spaced.
Geri, you would have seen mine at the Scone meet last year, it was my mate that took the photos of both your cars.

Hi Ritchie, don't know what they were on about then?! I got done once in each of my cars (tho they're both illegal spacing on em!!) Don't think i'll even ask what happened for your 101 in a 70!!! i've been done for 82 in a seventy!!!

How's your mate doin? really nice guy (didn't like to tell him but i'd just had a major personal domestic the day he came round and wasn't quite with it  ) Was well impressed with the photos he did and will get in touch one day for prints (so disorganised!!)

When i get time (and work out how to do it!) will stick a thread on with some of the photos, they are really excellent and am sure anyone in scotland needing some done will get in touch with him once they see them :D
The one in my sigs one of my favourites of his  Have you still got your car?

I've heard you tend to get away with it until you stick the stadt stickers on and then they come down on you hard, still looking at geeting some plates done though, wanted them for years!!

I like german plates on german cars

To me, no point fitting them to a UK car- just another "pull me" beacon...

I have got white at the back as well and maybe this is my downfall with getting stopped  but it looks SO much better than the yellow on mine, anyway have taken them off the E30 for a bit!

That's probably where the main issue is mate, I have a white rear plate too but only use it for shows and photo's.

Hmmm interesting??? Hadn't thought of that! mabye I could get yellow plates for the back, without the D! and just put them on for when I'm on the motorway which is when I get stopped lol (lot of hassle tho! and worried the bits on the surrounds are gonna brake with so much swopping em over!)

Mine have been fine, I have been known to drive to the lakeside meet from Tiptree (about 40 miles of a12-m25) with the white plate on the back

But yeah I just use a yellow plate for regular driving and only use the white plate once in a blue moon.

Ha ha lol! Seems to be around Manchester I get the problem :x it's a shame that's where i'm going to, or I could've done a big old 100 mile detour to avoid the motorway there and things would be cool lol!

Not wishing to jinx myself here 8O but I live in Manchester and I've had german plates (albeit correctly spaced and with a yellow rear plate) on my daily driver for nearly 2 years without so much as a second glance from the filth :?

Cheers,

Another German plate owner here, had mine for nearly 2 years too with no problems.

Also got some nice smoked plates on my touring, again no problems with these in 2 years.

basically, because we are part of the EU, anything that is legal in germany, is legal over here. dubmeister plates are made to german specs, and as such are legal in germany, so they should be legal here aswell.
