Quick question - E30 BBS fitment on to a Toyota MR2 MK1
Moderator: martauto
As the title says, anyone know if its possible?
My mate needs some new wheels for his MR2 MK1 and I have a load of BBS spare. He and I were wondering whether its possible to fit the BBS onto his car? The wheels currently on his car are 4x100. Will they need spacers or go straight on? Or is it generally not advisable?
Thanks,
Nick

Hmm, pull the exisiting and get the ET info from the rim, the OE toyaota wheels have it clearly marked on the outer faces.
assuming the PCD is the same, and the ET similar , and the hub boss is same/smaller than the E30.......
short answer.... fit one and see

according to Rochford wheel fitment, the MR2 has an offset range of 35-45 and a centre-bore of 54.1
so probably not as the BBS BMW wheel has an offset of 24 and centre bore of 57.1? You might get away with it... make sure the profile of the wheel bolt suits the wheel; if not the bolt might crack the alloy...
here's an unconnected picture I have lying around to show the different profiles between BMW and VW wheel bolts.

Nice one guys! Seems like the best way of finding out is to try fitting them. Think my mates coming over tomorrow, so if its successful I'll put some pics up as I think it might be interesting to see. Have done some quick photoshop pieces to get an idea and they seem to look better than i had thought they would.
But they would have to be a good fit as it would be ashame to ruin the handling of those little mk1 mr2s, I almost got one instead of my e30!
My mates also put a note up in one of the toyota forums about this but no ones replied yet.
Cheers!

Nice one for the pics mate.
Am I right in saying that corolla also uses the same engine?
Definitely keen now to have a go at fitting the wheels as I'm sure my mate will be too, just as soon as it stops raining!
What size tyres did you use?
Cheers,
Nick

Parked outside my local Halfrauds today was a Mk1 'Merde' fitted with Fondmetal alloys that looked very similar to BBS wheels; they had 195/50 x 15" tyres fitted.

Had a F reg mr2 mk1 absoluteley loved it.Had to go as it was impossible not to drive it like a go cart.
Needed my licence, got my one and only speeding ticket( so far) within a week of getting the car.

Yeah they are great cars. A few of my mates have had them now and each one has absolutely loved driving them. I've only ever been a passenger, but been regularly impressed with the handling capabilities, even in the wet! Think they look pretty rad too, especially the t-bars although they're not so good in the wet due to leaks in the seals.
Do you think 205/55 tyres will be too big?

I assume these are 15" BBS?
Again according to Rochford you should be running 205/50/15 to keep the correct rolling diameter.

if the measurements above are correct,
the bmw wheels will 'fit' on the car, but you'll need spiggot rings to reduce the centre bore to the correct size. the offset is a fair way out the wrong way though, so they will sit closer to the arches. the higher the offset the more inboard the wheels sit.
