It's not that great to be honest.
The factory is a better look around, as is the HQ. There's a msaaive dealer behind them now with some amazing cars in it. Also, you could take a visit to Alpina HQ which isn't too far.
If you call BMW or Alpina in advance, you may be able to get into a factory tour.

I have also been to the museum in Munich as I lived their for 18 months. The Museum is OK not really worth a long trip. However if you are going that way, you could make a road trip of it and visit the Porche Museum in Stuttagrt. The museum is nothing much, however if you book in advance you can also to the factory trip which is well worth it, you get right up beside the assembly line, then there is also the Merc museum to see as well. Also if you make it to Munich the Deutchs Museum in town is the best Museum that I have ever been to. It is full of all things Mechanical from a mock up underground mine to a U-boat, Trains, Planes. I can't recommend this highly enough I spent 3 different days there and still didn't see it all.
