if it was me:
1) get it all legal and on the road for a few months to make doubly sure all is ok before throwing money on it.
2) 60/40 drop and some 15" BBS rims (get a M20 suspension kit for the time being)
3) drop in a M20 2.5 lump. dead easy. job done!

Wouldn't read too much into a bit of mayonnaise just on the filler cap. Check the fluids and start it up again - watching the gauge this time, and make sure the viscous works.
Also check the car doesn't have the original radiator cap on it (which was subject to a recall years ago.)

It's not a very valuable engine at the end of the day. In fact it's probably worth little different weighed in as scrap than it is as a working engine.
Just the hassle of getting a fresh one and fitting it.

All the new ones I've seen have been yellow underneath, but during a discussion on a thread on the subject, it seems there may be another type around, but I can't remember the details. Forum search may bring it up.
Dealer can tell from your VIN if your car has had a replacement cap, but of course, that doesn't necessarily mean that's the cap that's on it now.
If it's not been changed you should be able to get a free one out of them.

I'm looking to do this too mate - if you do it and I do it, that will be three blue tourings with V8 conversions (Bigdek) started and possibly completed all around the same time!
I get my engine on Saturday but still need a gearbox from somewhere. Don't quite know which box to go for and what the box options are for this engine???
Either way, this is sure to be fun and I can't wait to hear the V8 roar in the touring!
O/T Daz, are you a Pink Floyd fan per chance?
