You have to remember that you never really own the plate, its almost like leasing it.

Thats what the 15 minutes on the phone listening to the welsh bint mumbling is all about. Most dont listen to this and just agree. They state that if you are found to be mis-spacing the plate they have the right to remove the plate from you with no money given back to you. Yes it sucks, but thats the DVLA.

Another thing to think of is that it can be classed as fraud as you are altering the plate, can be seen to be an attempt to confuse the person reading it.

Its illegal - end of, that said run a std on on the rear, and illegal one on the front for less grief.

I have a set of illegal plates too, LXI 318i they read, the proper plate is LXI 3181, and they are metro plates so the writing isn't compliant either, I have the normal plates on at the moment but was never stopped before with the others on, guess its luck of the draw..

And yeah if u have been given a producer, it goes on record, making it worse if you are scooped again for the same offence, not to mention the 3 strikes thing...

BIGJO wrote:Sorry guys, a bit of confusion with where i purchased the plate from as it seems to some next man 'STE' that this is what my thread is all about (where i got my plate from)! :offtopic: ..................................................................................................

BUT anyway, everyone's an individual with their own opinions & problems! It's funny how people get all excited & sh*t!

Firstly i purchased it from a site of the net & got DVLA to put the transfer through. That's what i meant. So to STE i do apologise if you got the wrong end of the stick fella BUT there was no need to call me a muppet because i paid too much for a plate. And geez, it doesn't matter if it looks stupid to you because it's not your plate & if you can read, the thread i posted is all about the problem with the police, so if you've got anything to share regarding the issue then please do feel free to do so. However, if you want to talk sh*t then you can piss off & talk to your puppets mate

Thanks for all the helpful information people, it's much appreciated! Please excuse me for getting all wound up by STE but it's always the minority that have to ruin it for the majority! Sorry!

Bob S, i'll be going to BMW tomorrow for a new set of plate fella, thanks

Regards, BJ.
Opinions are like arseholes mate - everyone's got one.

Hit a nerve did I? Sorry - I forgot to mention that the Alpina and BMW badges on your plate look stupid too. Having said that, they fit right in with your fake Alpina wheels. See that's my opinion. You asked a question at the start of this thread and you then bragged that you'd spent £2,500 on a £399 plate.

Now, you can criticise my opinions of your mis-spaced plate looking crap, and that I think the badges on your plate and your chav wheels look pure council filth and that fella is your opinion which you are 100% entitled to and you'll even get some people that will agree with you.

I don't think you'll get many people agreeing that spending £2,500 on a £399 plate is good darts though.

In future if you don't want people to comment don't ask for an opinion. If you do ask for opinions on what to do don't get shirty if not everybody gives you the enswer you want- it's as easy as that.

Non taken at all mate! I sold her to my brother and Karan bought her off him.

Karan was a very worthy custodian and treated her in the way she'd become accustomed! I reckon few Sports have spent more of their life sideways. 8)

Now we really are off-topic though and BEG JO is going to get angry.

get a proper set of plates made up and fitted, get the ticket stamped,go show the police so the matters closed and then change them back but keep the proper ones handy in you boot just in case you bump into that officer again, you cant beat the system so its not worth trying, any deviation from a standard plate is illegal but most officers wouldnt bother unless it was difficult to read.it does seem a bit expensive for that plate but its your money so its your choice how to spend it

It's only traffic cops who will try and enforce the plate laws, i work for a couple of cops, one CID the other i don't know what division he is, both have seen my car with the illegal plates, and both have said as long as your not 'asking' to get pulled then they will always leave you alone. It's generally not worth winding up the public with misdemeanors, otherwise we will just ignore the cops when they ask for help.

STE don't think i asked for an opinion on my plates did i? Oh well, you're probably just a reckless person that goes running around saying irrelevant stuff that doesn't help the person's thread! Just to make it interesting or some sh*t? All i can say fella is I apologise for having a sh*t & chavy car on the E30 Zone, but like you said i'm entitled to having that taste in cars, isn't that right?

Right, well my car might not be 'all that' in some people's eyes but then again, why would you want to disrespect some student's car? Come on fella, that's not right!!!

I'm a full-time student studying Business at University, i work part-time with Lloyds TSB & with my dad (that's the ony money i earn). I bought this 325i Sport from some geezer in London for £3,500 it had E30 M3 seats with air con, looked okay for me to put my money that i was earning towards it & started having fun. It came with the Alpina reps which, i have to admit is a bit common on these motor's BUT then again my friend i wanted my car to be mechanically sound before i started to work on the exterior. So all i've done is had work done on the engine such as a full engine rebuild, Schrick cam (288 with valve springs), BTB 6 branch & in the process of alongside others such as new bushes all round, new suspension as the geezer done 60/60 to it, it's too low with my sub in the back, (H&R Cup kit 60/40 new), anti-roll bars (H&R), Big Bore throttle body, ITG induction kit (ssshhh, please no opions), strut brace, Vernier pulley & Goodridge stainless steel brake line kit, with ABS all from The E30 Zone, which is all in the process.

With my reps i'm looking to keep them as my winter wheels & get a set of summer wheels but need to get the 5 stud conversion done which i can afford but not the wheels i like (deep BBS's). So, will leave that at a later date!

Just so STE doesn't think i'm bullsh*tting or anything

http://www.e30zone.co.uk/modules.php?na ... ic&t=41940

At the moment geez, i'm just experiencing on these motor's, i love them i've had 5. That's why i come to this site, it's amazing :thumb: My last car was a 325i Sport dolphin grey got nicked last summer

no insurance as it wasn't running properly so wasn't using it (firing on only 5 cylinders) but was all i could afford-no funds & was deverstated had those small BBS's (15's).

Just quickly, what does everyone think of those black Vintage number plates? I personally don't like them but my mate's E39 M5 has AC3R written on it..........surely that's illegal BUT he's never been approached by the police regarding the plates. Is it because the M5 is a better & newer car? Surely STE will agree as my car's an old banger which BEG JO  is slaving over. No but seriously, the black plates? Illegal?

Just so we can see my chavy beast! Please do no click if don't like Alpinas on E30's, especially STE. Don't want to be hitting your 'nerves' now will we winkeye

http://img146.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... 439sh6.jpg

Maybe Chavy in your eyes but :gives: ? No-one asked for an opinion on the biyatch (car) or plates fool! Needed help with my situation

Also explained about the plate previously geez

Anyway fella, i know what to do in the situation i am in no thanks to you, but to all the people that have helped me with my problem all i can say is much obliged!

The Realest, you're from my ends (Enfield)!

Erm just cause he had an opinion doesnt mean you should try and rip him a new one.. he had his opinion you have yours.. they are different, enjoy the variety that makes us different. only person that appears to have a nerve hit is you, dunno why. ok so his post wasnt exactly bout the initial post but it was relevant.. buy a plate, space it to look like something its not and pay the consequences if the old bill dont like it..

its nothing to do with him that you dont know what to do, you have read the posts, all saying you plate is illegal thats why there is an issue yet you still dont know what to do 8O

you have a plate illegally spaced to read like something its not.. they've picked you up on it and your havin a barny over it.. simple solution.. get a proper plate

I knew i wouldn't get any sleep as someone would write something.....Jhonno, i know what to do as i previously said in my last post:

'Anyway fella, i know what to do in the situation i am in, no thanks to you (STE), but to all the people that have helped me with my problem all i can say is much obliged'!

Can people please read the posts before replying & getting involved in a worthless arguement?

Why would STE hit my nerve & no-one else's Jhonno? Well let me see, it's my thread & i'm the muppet driving a chavy car? Obviously STE didn't like the BM with the plates but like i said earlier :gives: that's not why i put this thread up, it's irrelevant!

Do you Jhonno, go aound like STE telling people who need help with their problems that their car's chavy & sh*t? Don't know about you fella but i think that's rude, my parents taught me better than that. I suppose we did cover that everyone's an individual.

Need i say anymore or have you just recently jumped in & not bothered reading the previous? It was unprovoked fella but thanks for your interest

Thanks again people

just velcro the plates on and have original in the boot

thats what i do with my black and silver ones, if they give you any shit but say you've been to a car show, or going to a car meet and thats why you have put them on, HOWEVER if you get cought by the same copper you will be in shit and get finned

i'm lucky not have been caught by the same copper twice

but most of the time i just keep standard plates on

Worthless argument that appears to (imo) have started after you've reacted to Ste's opinion//

He doesnt appears to have hit anyone else's nerve, no one else is having a go at him, ok so its your thread, but i dont see ppl jumping in on your behalf. You put the thread up.. its open to comment directly related or not

i have read previous posts, but misread one big deal, unprovoked mayve but takes 2 to tango

Furry muff.. sup to you

Whoo woo.. nice edit.. :P I will tell someone if they are chavvy and shit yeah or their car for that matter, Ste doesnt make a habit of it, only thing i can think of if that makes you feel singled out is that he thinks your special or summat..

So are all those mods mentioned on the car or coming.. Some nice stuff there.. get it rolling roaded

Flaw in your reps as winter wheels plan.. if you run 5 lug, unless its adapters they wont fit any more..

Sorry fella but i'm well disciplined, come from a strict family :? it's all good! I haven't had anyone bad mouth my car previously so obviously was shocked 8O think at times people should keep their opinions to their self as it may upset others or as STE said previously getting BEG JO angry

Do you not agree Jhonno?

I'm getting there with my car but was speaking to Sal about the last thing i can to do with the setup he & his pal's can do with getting rid of the AFM & de-restricting something? Can't remember but forget it. Once it's done it's going on the dyno.

Jhonno, you live in Brighton? I was there last night when i got pulled. It was on Ditchling road by the Roundhill bar/pub, the people cheered for me when i got out of the squad car (don't want to be bragging now might end up having trouble with some next man  Jokes!!!

My plates have been illegally spaced for the last 5 years. Been through 5 MOT's with them on too. I also had an under-size front plate for 3 years and 3 MOT's.
I guess I've just been lucky.
This is why I no longer drive an E30......

Try to keep it all friendly, please, lads!
Just a general comment on buying personalised plates: A lot of plates advertised by traders are actually owned by the DVLA, and can be bought direct from the DVLA at a fraction of the price that the trader is asking.
Quite possibly a case of this here I suspect.
A relation of mine recieved an unsolicited offer by post of a plate, H1 + his three initials for some grossly inflated price. He wasn't actually looking for a personal plate before this arrived, but it appealed to him, and fortunately he had the sense to contact the DVLA before parting with his money, where he found it was available for about a quarter of the price.
