Hi, i've just got myself a number plate B9G JO from DVLA. Went to Halfords to get it printed but they wouldn't print it the way i wanted it (B9G JO). The only way to do it is B9 GJO (legally).

However, i could make up a set of show plates so i can have the letters set out the way i want it. What are the consequences though? £80.00 fine?

Just wondering what you guys think & how i should go about this problem.

Regards, Big Jo.

If you don't do it with a stupid font you shouldn't get any trouble from the Police about it, as most (round here anyway) use common sense and if it's readable it's OK.

It seems you'll need a silly font to make a 9 look like an I though. It might read BAG JO otherwise :?

I thought the 9 replacing the I would b difficult. I'll just leave it standard B9G JO with the show plates.

My mate was telling me earlier today that BMW magazines may have something in the back for number plates. He said that he saw a few ads of places that specialise in number plates & can legalise moving the letters/numbers about.

I think i need to get a BM magazine, look for something in there & if nothing........................then show plates it is then!

Many thanks, Big Jo.

I can't see how a company can legalise mis-spacing plates as there are strict rules set out by the DVLA.

You should be fine with the plate mis-spaced but in standard font though.

as far as i'm aware, the only thing that limits them is the size of the text, the font, the minimum spacing between each letter and the size of the border around the outside of the letters that governs the plates, also, making digits to look like leters or letters to look like other letters and the placing if points/dots/coloured screw caps to affect how the plate is read is also illegal, other than that the layout is as you wish as far as i know

Be careful though, and be aware that you will eventually get pulled.

I had MKE 5W a few years back that I spaced as MKE5W - not that impressive, but I still got yanked for it. (Was looking after the plate for my Dad, Mike)

Currently running GIL35 51. The day I get pulled and forced to move the digits it'll be up for sale... GIL 3551 is a crap Irish plate when not spaced properly!

Number Plate: B9 GJO

I left everything standard. Letters, numbers & borders all standard. All i changed was i moved the G closer to the 9. Other than that all standard.

Many thanks, Jo.

You could, if you were naughty, make the G look like a 6, then it would read B96 JO...

A bit far fetched...?

Not sure about that fella. Does seem like a good idea, would look good to BUT not sure!

I'm not liked by the police in my area, they'd try & do me for anything....

Never been pulled in my car, it even passes the MOT like it!

Like the others have said if you try to make the characters appear like something they are not then expect trouble, in my opinion my plate is easier to read than the original H*** TSS that was it's original plate.

If i find the picture of the plate the previous owner had on my car it will make you cry! I'll have a search for it...............
