dont be sad... a clio cub would whoop a standard e30 M3... did anyone see the 5th Gear programme where they tracked an m3 v's Lanci Delta Turbo on their shootout... the M3 was slower than a new Sport Ka For Fukc's sake!!!
I had a burn up with a clio cup in my 328 sport, up a hill on dual carriageway... the Clio was faster than my sport.. i was gutted. Not massively, but still edged it and i was givnig it everything it had!!
The m3 remember is 20 year old technology... Its gutting when you realise something you idolise isn't what you thought it would be... but remeber you will look much cooler in the BMW anyday!!

I think the problem with e30 M3 is most people seem to think they are as quick/nearly as quick as the new ones. Obviosuly this couldbt ne further from the truth
for me, the ride in bens Cecotto highlighted what it was about; its the way the thing stops and handles so well for a 16 year old car. Ben was driving to roundabouts at about 60 an i thought i was going to die; the car just goes round them like its on fucking rails. There really is no roll adn the feel around slight bends is like any car of the same caliber that rolls of the factory today. And the brakes are so further advaned than standard e30 ones its scary (maybe mine are jsut shit)
Just my opinion; for me if you want out right speed and brutality go turbo jap crap, its the character of the m3 that wins it for me

Its true. But as we all know, the reason we love E30's is because they look the bollocks.

And in 5 years time the clio will be worth Ԛ£10!m3ben05 wrote:Take your french hatch on a track and i guarentee you that most M3's would leave it for dust. And dont forget, a clio cup costs more than an e30 M3

obviously an old bm is gna be cheaper than a brand new performance car, and there is no way a standard m3 would beat a standard clio cup. great brakes are pointless when the car is so slow.
tec 2 325is is way cooler
for looks than m3 any day. subtle looks beats ott styling

why would you want a car that is worth a lot when it drives like a tug boat.Simon wrote:And in 5 years time the clio will be worth Ԛ£10!m3ben05 wrote:Take your french hatch on a track and i guarentee you that most M3's would leave it for dust. And dont forget, a clio cup costs more than an e30 M3
i'd rather swallow my pride and admit it when a car is disapointing.

k did u go round a few twisties in it?
they weren't massively quick in a straight line from new, it was the rest of the package that made it what it was.
One of the most involving drives there are even now. Only abs and p/s to help
Don't race the new hot hatches for this reason. I wonder if the 2.7 could out drag a clio cup. It should see off a E36 328i, same power but lighter

Im not getting into an argument, but judging a car like the M3 from a single drive is like me saying an F1 car is crap after a single go. There is no way you can get the best out a car like that from a short drive, its a car that rewards driver input like no other iv driven.
If you get the chance, drive an e46 M3, yes its fast in a streight line, wow, that takes no skill what so-ever. Iv driven a few and they are no fun at all.
Im not saying its a fast car in a streight line, who really cares about that? Im saying its an old car that will out handle and be one hell of a lot more fun than most newer cars that will cost a lot more
Cars dont become icons by accident. You cant see the appeal and thats fine, its your opinion, but most people who have driven them properly will tell you differently.

u can tune the engine somewhat for not too much money.
No offense but did u drive a good one?
I've driven a sorted M3 engined car and they have a peachy screamer of an engine just want to rev and rev. They accelerate well when moving. It's the standarding starts which aren't so good due to relative lack of torque below 3.5k

the only reason you would contend is due to the cosworth engine in your estate. unfair as i am sure cosworth engine in the clio or my 316 even would be more than a match for yor estate.fuzzy wrote:m3ben05 wrote:

remember we are talking m3s here not petty challenges. I am a bmw owner too. and the m3 WAS A LET DOWN.

si i think hes OW3ND thereSimon wrote:If that's the case, then the clio is slow too, if you look at the stats, they are pretty much identical..316iDude wrote:

Been to two track days now and both have had a couple of these clio's there at the same time.
They handle superbly even in the wet and they are definately quicker than a standard M3.
They are very light with quite powerful engines.
I have to say I was impressed but I would never buy one. Its french and will be worth Ԛ£10 after a few years.
Very competent car.
E30 m3 with modifications to engine and suspension is leagues and leagues ahead of a standard one though. They have massive potential.

around 1200kgs.
Anything with 200bhp in an E30 is a 7 sec car. Which is no slouch imo even today. 220bhp even less.
u think an E46 is 1500kgs of sound proofing and electrics

Once again ill say agen i was merely saying that the m3 was disappointing from a days worth of driving, and also the clio is more fun to drive. i didnt think that some of you would take so much offence but surely it says something that some of you agree with me!
and as for mr astra van, its a debait not a slaging match you wanker.

Good 2.7's are real weapons. 230+ BHP M3's (and there are plenty about) are bloody quick cars.
Try a 290 bhp E30 M3 - thats insane! I went out in one at Silverstone.

m5pilot has the right idea. But im talking standard not modded. I was just suprised, im not saying anothing about value or anything, just that the m3 isnt all its cracked up to be. I'll soon be smoking u m3 boys in my cup as well as the 316 soon lol
(joke incase anal astra cock has another hissy fit)
Agreed but Tiff Needell on the 5th Gear episode was getting the back of the M3 out everywhere, really enjoying himself, but not really conducive to a fast lap time. Shame he didn't concentrate on the job in hand, that is, getting the car around the track as fast as possible and not showboating.andrewe30m3 wrote:dont be sad... a clio cub would whoop a standard e30 M3... did anyone see the 5th Gear programme where they tracked an m3 v's Lanci Delta Turbo on their shootout... the M3 was slower than a new Sport Ka For Fukc's sake!!!

Generally though E30 M3s are not that fast (but fast enough for most people). If you want neck bracing acceleration look elsewhere. TVR anyone?
