Hi guy`s,
I have put this here as I thought it would apply to E-30`s as well and most other cars too.
I am looking at buying some five spoke wheels for my E-46 and will be changing the calipers as and would need to paint them in the body colour.
What would I need to do to prepare the calipers and what would I have to do before I put the final body coat on please ??
I intend to use the same rattle tin I have used for the rear spoiler and the interior trim which is a spot on match.

Cheers Mart.

Take the callipers off, remove any surface rust with a wire brush, remove paint with paint stripper (or an abrasive of your choice), paint in caliper paint or a high temp paint / engine enamel. Depends how far you wanna go really. Could spray paint them on the car masking off the discs etc but the paint probs won't last long. Best in my opinion to take them off the car, fully dissasemble, prep and paint and refit

Don't be tempted to use anything other than calliper paint.... engine enamel will work but stuff like Hammerite or cellulose / acrylics just won't last all, the environment is too aggressive.

I have parts I painted 3 years ago and after thousands of miles clean up and look as good as new every time, no rust and no damage, calliper enamel is hard as hell.

C'mon Mart you know you want bright red brake parts peeking through your basket weaves!!!

They are brand new calipers and I would like to paint them light green the same as my car so could I paint them and then put a clear coat on top which is heat resistible ?

Mart.

Glad I dont have a red car

2K clearcoat would help...its not only the heat...everything in those areas suffer so much with what is like sand blasting... never mind winter salt !!
