Im always looking at what E30s are on the market for sale and thought I would make a light hearted post about the common sales techniques (lies) people keep using to try and sell their (usually rubbish) E30s.

1. Dry stored for 10 years (probably stored in a driveway without a cover)
2. (Personal favorite) Stored in a heated garage for 10 years
2. Part history because dry stored in heated garage for 10 years
3. I know these cars are going up in value and dont want to sell - This one is very popular with 318 owners who think their car is worth as much as a mint 325
4. Never been welded
5. No rust whatsoever (you will probably find arch rust in the pictures  )

Feel free to add things which make you laugh or annoy you when you read sale adverts.

do you mean when people say things like the dash is cracked and then say thats just a common fault. Trying to make it sound like it doesnt matter.

"Never been driven in the rain"..... Actually, this would be the truth in my case during my ownership of my cab.

Before Satan comes along to comment, it's hardly driven at all, sadly. Might have to write up my own ad with all of the above things incorporated to make it appealing.... *cough*

we’re in a period where flybynight street car traders think they can bag a victim and make a fortune. It’ll take a few years for the cars to be unaffordable for them to buy in the first place so we’ll just have to put up with it for now.

My favourite lie is the mileage lie, “mileage genuine”. You’ll get more sense looking at the pedals and the mats than by reading the clocks.

Your missus was the one that wanted to be taken up the "High Wycombe." It was a "heavy" price to pay because giving her a ride cost me several suspension repairs and my back seats got ruined - not easy items to find these days.... :( :hump: :hump: :teehee:

Chancers.

The thing that made me confident in what i was getting myself into was the truthful ad.

it was along the lines of...

Rear arches will need doing at some point, i don't want to do it (with photos of both)
Its been my daily driver for 4 years doing easily 80 miles a day
Use it to tow parts around for my saab project (could see saab in background of photos)
Mileage wrong as i changed the clocks, its lower than what it says but i have no idea what it is anymore (Could see the jump in the MOT and the old clocks were in the boot)

At least you know what you're dealing with when you get an ad like that.

“Aircon needs a re-gas” meaning I’ve gassed it and it all leaked out in a day so something’s really goosed with the system.... lol

And another personal favourite “never drifted” meaning it’s never been driven forwards but only sideways lol
