So I’m trying to insure myself on the 318i touring that has been a slow project for the first time. As predicted, insurance is more than i actually paid for the car.
It seems the cheapest solution is to use a black box policy ( :( ) .... can a black box even be fitted to an e30, being older and that?

From what I understand, it's a GPS box, so shouldn't need hard wiring to fix to a vehicle. Tracking your whereabouts, speed and times of travel. However check with the insurance company. :thumb:

Hi Mart,
Never heard of Lancaster but I check them out! I’ve only really checked the major comparison sites so far such as GoCompare so probably need to dig a bit deeper!

The best one I’ve found so far is with “Hastings Direct” and they seem pretty legitimate. The problem comes after you’ve actually passed the test, it seems to double/ triple in price :(

Will check out with the insurance company wether they can fit a black box.

What insurance companies are everyone using?

I'm with Flux, who we're cheaper, but no doubt this will change next year!

Reading all these prices is crazy! I guess I am 17 so it’s to be expected!

I’ve had a look into all the companies mentioned and have had the most luck with Flux. It almost seems suspiciously cheap at £500 though and the reviews aren’t the best! Should I go for it or am I right to be a bit sceptical, all the other quotes I’m getting are double that 😬😬

Thanks for all the advice!

Hi Steve, does salvage retention mean you keep your car if it is written off? Because if it is then it is something i need to ask my company about. Does it cost extra? Thanks

Try Lloyds bank car insurance and also get a more experienced driver on your policy it if you can. should lower your premium.

hi bud, yes salvage retention means if it gets written off i get the chance to "buy" it back at a reduced price, cant remember the cost on the policy but i know it wasn't that much.

I assume the buying back is offset against the agreed value so in the end you get back a lesser amount. Thanks for the info, I will look into getting this on my next policy.

Try Adrian Flux. I have been with them for about 3 years now on my E30 316i and as a young driver. My E30 is my first car and first year was about £1600. Each year it has half-ed in price so far.
