It's incredible how desirability has shot up in the last 2 or 3 years

To think the three sports I bought about 2 years ago were just £2200, £2850 and £2500, not anymore they are !

Even a Bogo 2 door 318i auto is more than that now.

Good news for us owners

If prices keep going even pacer with start restoring more doors.

I can see this as a good thing if your unlucky enough to have a bump too, as less chance of a write off as prices raise.

Only draw back is like house prices, if you have one to sell you will get more money for it but if you need/what to buy another you have to pay more.

hopefully with values/prices n the rise we'll see a lot more e30's being saved instead of being broken.

true it could/will have an impact on the SH parts market but surely seeing more put back on the road is a good thing??

also it seems to be that values of the e30 are on he rise just as the supply of good clean mk1 & 2 escort shells is slowing down, seems folks are realising that there are other small, light, RWD cars about that dont carry the escort "tax".

This was one of the reasons I bought one.

Saw the price rise of mk2 escorts way back when (kicking myself for not buying a rs2000 at £1600 with mot) and didn't want to miss out on a far superior bmw e30 (bought a 318is over my first 318i)

Same thing happened with mk3 escorts so I got what i could, I'm halfway round the mighty IS and seem to asked weekly by a lad at work to sell..... His price keeps increasing but I'm not selling...

Heck, if values keep rising we all may profit if selling up is an option (as in can't roll around on the floor fixing them)

I always hankered after a Volvo P1800, but when it came to the crunch, I bought an E30 purely because it offered great value for money in terms of engineering and specification.

Prices of the P1800 are sky high too, so either would have been a good buy, but I'm glad I bought the 30.

*still fancy the Volvo, but good examples are £15k and upwards.

I used to crack up at the comments people made about 325i sports never being a £10k car!

That was some time ago mind and now £10k gets you a very average one.

As said even low mileage, clean low spec models are making good money.

£10K seems to be the bench mark, for as you say, very average one's (needing a little work) i dread to think what a low milage, high spec special edition (333i, alpina, hartge etc) would go for.

I think it's good the insurance brokers are keeping pace with the price rises also.

I know a few people now who have over £20k agreed value on their 325i sports, some without even an valuers inspection.

I was possibly one of those that made comments like that. I bought my Sport in 2002 and often had people ask if it was for sale, I'd always joke that I'd only sell it if they offered me £10k. I have no intention of selling, so may need to up that figure to £20k lol

Yep, i do but my car is priceless to me for sentimental reasons and should the worst happen and i got paid out for it at its agreed value i would not replace it with another Sport as it would not be the same car and i already have another E30.

Yer, your Sport is not only one of the best out there, but I know it also means a lot to you personally in sentimental value. This is a lot more special than a "standard" mint Sport and very nice to have that piece of history.

They have risen. Rightly or wrongly it's created a 'it's now or never' feeling for people who miss owning one. I just bought the white 318is from the Old Colonel for this very reason.

I experienced this with the 2002s in the 1980s. The 2002s started drying up at the scrap yards and parts let alone cars became hard to find secondhand. The E30 scene is mirror imaging to what happened then (in my opinion). Look at the prices of good Tiis now, back then they were cheap as chips. So I would concur with your thoughts.

Luckily I still own a poverty spec 316, prices have gone crazy over the last couple of years and they are a good little investment.
Its the same with the Z3M coupes, i sold mine at double what i paid for it and bought some proper turds with the money.

Hi guys

Just seeking some opinions between the 325sport and the 318is

I've had a number of E30's over the years; don't think I've ever paid more than £1k for them. I had a beautiful 320 around 12 years ago that I paid £900 for and it was immaculate (how I wish I'd have kept that!)

I'm thinking of getting another one but can't decide between a 325sport (I'd want a genuine sport rather than a spec'd up SE) or a 318is. The sports seem to be significantly more expensive (which was always the case) but I've never had a 318is or even driven one. I know a lot of people rave about them but I'm just worried I may be a little disappointed on the flip side I guess they will be rarer so I'm less likely to lose any money on one... Any thoughts?

Don't bother, m20 wins and sports beat se's for the sheer cool factor.

No matter where I go in mine, people just stop and stare.

Yeah, I probably should have guessed that it is a common dilemma.

I thought a 318is would hold its value better (although this isn't a massive consideration for me), however looking like at it I think a 325 sport seems to be a better bet on that regard.

Going through the old threads, it doesn't seems that most prefer the 325 sport with the 318is not being able to get over the fact that it is still a 4 pot.

So, I think I've decided to go for a 325 sport. Just need too try and and find one now! :D

On that note, does anybody know this car?

Depends. I miss the 6 cylinder of the 325 but a clean 'is is hard to beat looks-wise.

I actually prefer the pre-facelift model as well. I know they are not to everybody's taste but I quite like the chrome bits. I guess they will be more susceptible to rust though and a pre-facelift 325 is very difficult to find.

M8late, you have good taste. I'm not a fan of Chromies but I'm a young wippersnapper, everything was made of plastic by the time I opened my eyes to the world. Oh dear, we're doing it, we're discussing E30s, we're in serious danger of boring everyone to death and losing cool points.

it does annoy me when people on ebay claim their car is will increase £875 per year.

if I had that sort of talent i'd be sitting on a beach all day making executing the odd trade here and there, not on ebay selling a 4k poverty spec 318i
