Build date Tech 2 Sport

Any idea what month the first Tech 2's were built? I know they were on sale in January 89 as mine is registered then and i've still got an issue of Performance Car mag with them road testing one. Who's got the earliest?

I thought that the first ones were out in September 88?
I have also seen a photo of a very early one that had the bulls eye type head lights.
