Hi, I've got an E30 cabriolet. I love the car (and ive spent some money on it now!) and that's why I really don't want anyone stealing it. So that brings me to my question; what is the best anti theft device? The cars got an immobilizer but it doesn't work and I don't think its gonna be a quick fix. So I've been looking at steering wheel locks, gear knob/handbrake locks, clutch locks and wheel clamps. So whats the best in everyones eyes please? Cheers

I'd do some visible deterents like you mention to deter the average thick scum bag

Then also Brian's earthing of the fuel pump supply to immobilise the car.

Total cost pretty minimal and probably the best you can do really

Perhaps a GPS/GPRS tracker in case it does go missing.

If it was fitted with the popular at the time standard thatcham cat2 cobra immobiliser, mine was pretty cheap to fix.

The cobra alarms website has all the guides and replacement parts. www.cobracartech.co.uk

Thanks for the help guys. I like the idea of earthing the fuel pump. Not actually sure what my immobiliser is, but the cobra site looks useful.
I watched a video about the disc lock steering lock and I don’t understand how it works. The video demonstrates that the lock fits over the steering wheel and the lock can spin freely over the wheel. So I don’t understand how it works as surely a scumbag could steer the car by gripping the back of the wheel rendering the lock useless? The good thing about the disc lock is that they can’t take off the steering wheel.

jim, any hints/tips on how to "earth" the fuel pump?? thinking of a hidden switch some on the wiring.
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

Another vote for a tracker here, if someone wants it they will have it away, immobiliser, steering lock, alarm are all an inconvenience for the determined thief, but will not stop them. Neither will the tracker, but you will find it pretty quick afterwards should the worst happen.

The tech is getting cheaper by the day and its DIY friendly.

Cheers.

What do you reckon to this?

They have an extra 20% off at the moment so its £35. Not sure about where to put it/wiring?
