I've got a z3 rack and it's ok but turning circle is poor compared to standard e36 rack I had before. I've heard the purple tag is a better option, they're newer, easier to find and have a better feel I've been told.

I got a purple rack for £30. Even if it's not quite as good, I'd rather spend the extra £££ saved on new bushes (or vodva, or something).

I do like the purple rack though - so much nicer than the old 4.0 original unit.

There's practically nothing in it between the two (based on and E30 with E46, a compact with purple tag and a Z3 with, well a Z3 rack).

In future I will always be going for the cheap and available E46 purple tag rack.

Was this purple tag rack only fitted to the E46 Clubsport? There wouldn't be that many around then, are there?

Is this specifically for the UK market or where they supplied on the Mainland as well?

I would like to get one of those in my 332i track car.

I got a Z3 rack for £140 from ebay just searched people breaking Z3's was a straightforward swop. It's much better that the knackered E36 one I had.

I got mine off a 320d compact. I just looked at all eBay listings for e46 steering rack searching for a purple tag in the phitos, rather than paying the inflated prices from those in the know ;)

Dunno if that's the same for lhd though.

Depends which Z3 rack, the shortest is 2.7 turns and in my opinion is too sensitive on a road E30, very different to how it feels on a Z3 with the same rack.
My preference is the E46, either standard 3.4 or the shorter 3 turn its hard to tell the difference, but they feel a lot better than the older 3.4 turn E36 rack

The purple tag racks came on a lot of random stuff depending on the package ordered.

320D seems to be a common one as does the 330.

The key indicator is the rack has a purple coloured tag.
