Leather seats need some attention.

Has anyone any experience of getting their leather seats refurbished?

My seats don't have any rips or tears but they are worn and need some attention.

I can't decide whether a professional clean recolour abd seal would be a waste of money and I would end up having to get them redone anyway.

So I've been quoted £340 to clean recolour and seal all my seats (leather) or £1400 to get them redone one new leather.

I did my front seats with scuffmaster leather dye. It is easy to do as long as the leather is not cut or damaged.
You can spray it on or use a sponge.

They look superb, as does that car.

Thinking i may go the £340 route as i have 2 small children and no time. By the time i spend money on the cleaning products, dye and seal and then get round to do it - months and months will pass. My time is more valuable and besides someone will come and do it all (i presume) in a day.

Looks good, i got quoted £1400 for the whole car redone in leather and his work looks good. He wanted the car for 5 days mind.

I did mine myself - came out OK IMO, esp. for the money paid (under £90 for the kit).




















If I were to do it again, I'd not bother filing the small cracks on the seat base.

I know you want to pay someone, but hopefully it gives an idea of what can be done without getting them recovered. (Although I would like to recover them in the future, but it's a marked improvement over what they were like when I got the car.)

It comes with propellant, but it was much, much easier to us a compressor and a spray gun.

The only downside with the Furniture clinic kit is taht it seals the Leather so you can't feed it afterwards whereas the Scuffmaster ( Gliptone) solution leaves the cracks but recolours within them and if you feed the leather afterwards regularly it sort of swells around the cracks reducing their appearance. Basically the seats feel softer and IMO nicer after using the Scuffmaster but the most low maintinence / better appearance is the kit you've gone for

That explains a lot cheers - they don't feel anywhere as soft as the untreated back seats.

I'd love to swap them, but finding a seat of heated fabric sports seats without tears and a rear armrest/headrests seems to be impossible!

Here's my post from when I did mine. At the time I didn't know about the gliptone/scuffmaster kit otherwise I would have bought it as I found mixing the dyes myself to match the colour quite difficult. I'm still pleased with my results especially with the repair of the tear and a few months on still looks great.

Most leather is sealed

Only the high end nappa leathers are just tanned and need feeding

Not really, no. Hardest bit was getting a good finish with the filler. The spraying is easy, and easy to remove if you get it wrong or full of runs etc.

For my daughters 1990 325i Cabrio we are replacing the leather then using this product to maintain it. We will do the leather replacement ourselves.

The front and rear seats are in very bad condition and seams ripped apart as if they have been exposed to much rain and sun.

That's the plan anyway.
