I've never had a 'good' experience/outcome from an insurance company, so I'm not keen on going down that road - especially as they will prob just write the car off!!!
The old girl says she is happy to sort this privately, so I will see what it costs and if she can/will pay!!!
Apart from me ideally wanting to find a Diamond black, drivers side, rear door, for my touring...
I don't really know anything about the fitting!!!
The car is in the local workshop I use for everything, (know the guys well), so they are stripping it today and checking nothing is too bent.
The door is obviously scrap, the hinges are bent.
Assuming the pillar isn't bent, (it looked ok in the dark last night!), I'm wondering how the hinges are fixed in place???
Do they bolt to the shell? Welded in place? Easily replaceable or a PITA?
Any other issues that might crop up along the way?
The front door did have a very slight drop before, not enough for me to do anything about, but I'm considering dealing with that at the same time and billing her for it, as currently the drivers door won't shut fully either, though it does still appear to line up ok.
It's looking, so far, like I'm going to end up with a door the wrong colour, so I'm also considering sorting some other paintwork at the same time, as she will be contributing towards it!!!
Any info, ideas, advice, spare doors - all appreciated!!!
This is how it looked after I had bent the door back to try and shut it, (it was higher and originally sprung back to be at about 90 degrees to the body!!!).
