Does anyone know the angle the m20 mounts at?

I know the m5x is 10 degrees more tilt and the m50 arms fit on the m20 block.

Has anyone ever used m5x arms to mount an m20 with some extra slant?

Unfortunately I have no idea.

Is there any benefit to extra slant?

Potentially lower centre of mass?

Not a huge amount, less of a curve to the exhaust tubes to get out of the engine bay, more room on the inlet side and the correct mounting angle for my gearbox.

Only issue I can think of is oil surge and the sump being lower on one corner. Both are easy to solve with a sump guard and a windage tray.

I am just thinking of convenience.

It's done the other way with M50s quite a bit on E21s to stand the engine up to match the gearbox (gear driven speedo on the box) and clear the chassis leg with the exhausts.

That's surely the problem right there. If you mount it on the wonk, the gearbox mounts and shifter are going to be offset too?

I have an E36 box and Z3 diff in mine so my box is already on the wonk to the other direction, this would actually centre my box back up.

I rechecked the change and its 20 degrees for the M20 and 30 for the M5x, just for anyone's future reference.

I've done an M50 E21, rotating the M50 upright to the M20 angle means the sump hangs down awkwardly and needs to be cut, winged and welded along with a custom pick up. If you rotated an M20 to an M50 angle then I'm not sure where the sump will end up. It could be tucked up towards by the rotation so may not be an issue, but on the other hand it could need reworking.

Unless you're doing away with it I'm sure you would have clearance between the cast exhaust manifold and the steering linkage.

I did 70,000 miles with an engine mount rubber an inch taller than standard on the driverside, with no ill effects. Hope that helps :P

Tell you what Rog, that would probably put it to the 30 degree angle.

Planning to do away with the cast fannymould ASAP and what ever I put on will be reworked, the one I have on at the moment has been moved for more clearance but later a 6 branch will be going either side of the linkage instead.

I have seen the rework on the sump needed for the M5x in the E21, It is what gave me the idea.
The M5x sump is lower to start with than the M20, its also going upwards. Will have to see. :)
