Hi all doing the timing on the 318i for the first time and ive opened all the bolts holding the distribute cover down the one at the bottom is a pain some previous plonker has totally wankered the head 7mm dosent fit not does the normal 8 mm what can be done?? without destroying the dizzy??

I keep a load of old imperial sized sockets knocking about for stuff like this - a size between two metric sizes can often be hammered on and get enough grip to turn the head. Failing that, you may need to grind it off or drill it, if you can get clearance.

As above but ask an old ( as in age ) neighbor or relative as they may have whitworth and BA sizes as well as imperial .
