These old e30 are getting pricey!
some sheds on ebay for funny money.
I sold a tidy 325i sport in 1999 for £1850 come to think of it I also sold a mint fully restored signal green mk2 escort 1600 sport for £1700 in 1997 doh!

Si, I parked next to a mint B 10 bi turbo and a B12 5.0 highline yesterday. Both black, both factory fresh. The owner was a big Alpina fan like you, he was saying Alpina prices in Europe have gone crazy.

europe values the lumpy tackle way higher than here. 10,000 euros buys a really ropey e34 M5. E28's are worth even more and even stuff like e36's are double the price of here. Well know about e30's

I have mine as a hobby, out of love and appreciation of E30 which I don't ever intend on selling, so make no difference to me whether they are 1k or 50k as I wont be cashing it in. It's not an investment so prices don't concern me.

The only benefit I can see of rising prices is that the money sunk into the projects we can justify to the other half and general population. ... imagine sinking in 10k only for the turd to be only worth 2k the treasury will be thinking of all the shoes and handbags she could have bought instead 8O

mine is an on going hobby, but it is still nice to know that values are on the up, also helps with agreed value for the insurance should the worst happen (write off/stolen) so can't huet to keep an eye on prices/values winkeye
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.
getting oral sex off an ugly person is like rock climbing.....don't look down ;)

I started looking for E30s in 2008, because I could see that they were going to shoot up in price. Back then a clean 325i could be had for about 6000zl, which is about 1200 quid. These days you can't buy one for less than 15,000 (so about 3k) and prices are still climbing.

When the old girl misbehaves, or I get another stone chip in the paint I did 3 years ago, or any other time I get fed up with it, the rising value is an extra incentive to pull my finger out of my arse and get things fixed. And every time I fix it and take it out for a shakedown drive, I remember why I bought one in the first place and my stomach baulks at the idea of ever selling it :D

The insurance valuation is a double edged sword if you plan to replace like for like E30... All very good E30 being valued at 12k by insurance company but if it was to be stolen etc you have to go and splash that 12k on another replacement E30, same goes for if the market value was around 1k and the insurance value was 1k.... you simply take that 1k and get another 1k E30. So there is a hole in that logic :roll:

I am a mere peasant.

I had several E30s a few years ago when they were about bridge money.

I can't believe the prices people now ask for full-on landfill, but supply:demand etc.

£1k+ for a resto project is not unusual.

Too rich for me so I now have a £292 E36 318iS. :D

Because they appreciate them for what they are, epic and doesn't matter if they get old or high milege they're still special bespoke cars built in tiny numbers

In touring flavour they're a hard car to beat overall, BMW M or other brands. Then again their soft tops are often better than bmws efforts also

Well that what your saying is the whole point of agreed value, the idea of insurance agreed valuation is so you can replace it, and how much it would cost to do so, particularly with cars of a value and pedigree that just can't be replaced by going out and buying another, as there simply isn't one for sale like it to replace it with

UK alpinas back in the 80/90's were simply kits that certified dealers used to enhance sales, they weren't bespoke, they were Northern creations !

German/European Alpina's on the other hand were very serious turds, we never got turbo's or the B6 3.5 E30, B7turbo, B10 bi turbo B12 6.0 are just a few of the serious Buchloe turds that Germany kept, including the Famous B6s,

we got the C2 2.7 a stroked mill and plastic bitzz, a B10 3.5 with a cam maybe pistons but no turbo, and the B12 a normal 5.0 V12 with trinkets..

Move along to the E36/E46 we get a stroked mill, the germans kept the V8 B8 !

I aren't slating Alpina (only because i own a C2 2.7 a B10-E28 and an e34) they simply didn't send us any decent chariots,

All those UK alpinas were available in Europe as Buchloe built cars apart from a few styling package only cars such as the E28 B2.8, E34 B3.5 and E30 Alpina 3.

Some of the European only cars you mention such as the E34 Bi turbo and B6 3.5S were available in the UK as new cars but very very few sold here new in part due to the cost and also to not being that well known.

To say they are just a standard car with off the shelf bits hence not making them bespoke is utter bollocks if you generalising, as neither Simon or bodger mentioned any specific model of Alpina it's fair to say both were generalising.

The engines in most Alpinas are hand built and often completely reengineered. The E34 Bi turbo for example as a whole car is completely reengineered.
Almost every Alpinas spec, colour and interior is different, it's very very very rare to find two Identical Alpinas which to me makes them bespoke.

As for baiting, every thread Simon posts that bodger (after months of not posting anything) replies to consists of baiting in one form or another.

Don't make me dig up all the threads. Just take it as a polite warning over something you have been warned about in the past.

your a bit wide of the mark there, Sytners sold 2 B6s i believe, also the B12 8 series had the 350bhp engine like the e32 had which they sold here also.

Alot has to do with the epic price tags they had

Whilst I find Alpina's 'manufacturer' status laughable (they are a tuner, albeit a very good one, nothing more) they were a complete package with a hand built engine.

Stuff like the E90 320d thing (D3) however is simply a lightly tuned standard car.

As i understood it, by losing the tuner tag and gaining manufacturer they well able to up their prices/profit

They don't do discount even to this day. Something like the F30 bi-turbo is a heavily re engineered car from the stock BMW car. The engine is the older twin turbo effort found in the early e90's

Even more complicated and "bespoke" than that, the recast the later single "twin power" turbo N55 block to use the earlier N54's twin turbo set up.

If recasting a block (along with all the other parts unique to the F3x B3 Bi turbo) for a single model is not "bespoke" the what is?
