I have been reading about noisy hydraulic lifters and found this: http://www.justanswer.com/bmw/4dm15-bmw ... sound.html
Apparently this is a BMW bulletin. I read about a lifter bleeding procedure similar to that on a Mitsubishi related website as well. As anyone done it or any techs in the know?

Its just basic knowledge really, if you rev the engine the oil pressure goes up and circulates more, pushing out any air
Im not sure about the later M52 type lifters but the early lifters can be stripped down and cleaned, they are the most likely for noise too

I took the lifters apart in my US S50, soaked in carburetor cleaner and rebuilt. It fixed the tick on all but one....although I think it may actually be a header leak.
You can also try running quart of automatic transmission fluid for a couple of hundred miles before your next oil change.
