Incase anyone was thinking or parting with a large sum of cash for this car, don't.

The seller isn't declaring that the car is Cat C.

Dependent on the Cat C reason, would still be a good car as a keeper, would it not?

Got word from another dealer. This guy acknowledged it on the phone but clewrly won't in the ad.

So this means the car can't be worth £9950?

Personally I wouldn't trust that mileage on something that may have been through a salvage yard

Sports with slush boxes are not right anyway.

The seller HAS mentioned in the ad that the car is recorded, albeit , rather discreetly.

He has no hope of getting 10k for it, but, fortune favours the brave and he only needs one idiot who cannot read and has 10 bags :)

Had a reply .from seller, to my query as to why
car was on the VCar register.

Hello
I have looked over the car and there is nothing obvious that suggests the car has had anything major happen to it. It was classed as cat d back in 2001, 13 years ago, and my theory is back then the cars were not worth as much as they are now, and any small piece of damage such as a cracked bumper or scratch panel would easily give the insurance companies a reason to write it off. Panel gaps are consistent and the car drives very well.

Either way andy, seller can't have much of the Car's
history, or is being very frugal with the truth.

To be fair, you could say that about most E30's, imo.

cat D can be minor damage or flood damage, front end minor corner damage would cat D a car so its not that bad at all, no vehicle inspection needed to put it back on the road as a cat C would need an inspection, so maybe it is a 12 or 14k car and he is selling it for 10k not that bad at all

Do you guys recall the beardymatt thread. That was a cat c (?). Brilliant repair job. Would fetch more than £6k now. This might be similar :)

Yes and that car didn't exactly have a dented wing or scratch.

It had a bent chassis rail as part of the front damage.

It's unrecorded Cat X damage from early in a car's life that you should be concerned about, not Cat C or D from a time when the car was worth around £2k. An E30 breaker that I once bought with a clean V5, turned out to have had a whole rear and right quarter at some point in its life.
Typical bodyshop job, with the outside all immaculately painted, but the hidden side and joins all unpainted and rusted through from the inside.

It's the lack of information as to why it's a Cat D that would concern me.
10 large and only partial history, not a chance

The thing is what the car was worth when the accident happened ?. My tourer is a 316i first registered 03/1994 and had an ID check on 02/2006 when it was 12 years old and worth probably 1K . So £6 /700 repair costs and it was written off . The only faults I have found in the 6 years I have owned it is a repaired front bumper , the wings , front panel and bonnet are all filler free and original .

But beardymatt repaired the car to better than new...remember that Matt is an artist with steel.

Who repaired this car,and why?
These are the questions that any prospective buyer should be asking, until then,it's a Cat C/D car which affects it's value.

IF it is proved to be a 'genuine' 'sport',I would put it's true value at about £5k.

A car that is on the register is like a potential employee with a criminal record for theft . He / she may have been a victim of a miscarriage of justice or a proper wrong'un who was unfortunate enough to get caught once . Unless there are no other turdz/ candidates,or it is very cheap, why would you bother ? That stigma/ question mark will always be there.
If the turd in question is stunning with no evidence of its murky past, it may well be a very nice car but at 10k, I and most potential victimz do not want question marks and maybes.
