Ben
I've sifted through his mats a couple of times and had the best sets 8) never seen him have any with a raised carpet heel pad or ones other than the coconut type or velour type pictured in this thread with Bmw heel pad , most of his sets had damaged/split heel pads, coconut type are more durable but more suited to a winter use car, don't look as smart as the velour and they hold a lot of dust n fluff

I've got a couple of sets of nice grey mats with good pads-1 I had to re stitch the pad , an absolutely pristine dark blue set that's as good as you'l find with perfect heel pad, and also 1 drivers mat in brown 8O that's like brand new, the heel pad is like brand new

I had planned on dying a set black, but on a spare tester may I discoverd you can't dye them due to being man made fabric,I've tried a couple of types with no luck, although maybe thers s dye out there that can ?

Personally I think plain mats with no raised added carpet heel pad will be better, halfords type mats have that raised bit, in my old e30 it had what I think were motormec mats that were oem like look and feel with no heel pad or raised section

Plus I think it would last longer with no raised section- no stiching or edges to keep getting caught by the foot etc

These for sale? Can you post / PM pics?

Agree on the raised heel pad they look naff. If these turn out well I'll order another set as a spare. The best non original set I've seen were Motormec ones - apparently from the OEM factory and a very good match carpet type wise - I bought the wrong bloody blue tho - Royal instead of Indigo.

They were / are identical to a set of dealer fitted E46 mats (except for the fittings).

My heel pad was missing so I bought one of these

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heel-mat-prot ... 2a0b59d278

and had it sewn on.

The size is almost the same and the colour is good but obviously there is no logo.

Is that what a genuine heel pad looks like tho? Or does it look like the ones sewn into the carpet itself?

No it isn't a look alike heel pad but it doesnt look wrong in the car. I fitted it to save the mat from wearing through so I saved a genuine mat by fitting a non genuine pad.

Yeh but now the genuine mat is non-genuine.

'Tis a quandary.

Very good replicas are the way forward - there's no other choice anyway...

Are you considering different colours? I'd like a set but would need to be grey.

You can have any colour you want - I don't make them I'm just seeing how close they can get to a decent set. The maker is nothing to do with me.

They are identical to the ones I bought from bmw about 15 years ago, you can see the bmw roundel on the drivers mat.

They are later E36 style ones but for E30's which are replacement ones ie not ones that were supplied with the car new.

Charcoal/black ones in the cut pile/plush type have never been available, only loop pile/rough texture "coconut" ones were.

Okay Boyz.

I'm looking through an E30 accessory brochure from '87 and there are four types of mats.

1. Velour mats with a heel pad and BMW logo. These are for the sixpot casrs with velour carpets are an exact match for pile and colour.

2. "Goldengate (!) Polypropylene heavy duty mats without logo. Really rough and tough Farmer Giles stuff - the looped pile runs in strips across the width of the mat like a ploughed field.

3. "Festival' mats in polyamide, more of a heavy duty council house deep pile and NO heel pad. The pile looks similar to the cheaper carpet on the 316i and 318i.

4. "Indianapolis" mats. Heel pad with no logo and a polypropylene carpet in a normal pile.

Colours are Pine green, Anthracite, Nutria, Pearlbeige and Pacific blue. All gave the locking tabs and bound edging. The E30 and E28 mats I've seen most are number 2, normally with heel pad with logo.....

I have to say, the ORIGINAL original mats look rank.

Prefer the E36 Retrofit option...

Feel that if any 'grope buy' is to go ahead,we need to specify the most common overmat.

So velor with no logo and leartherette edges?

Plain velour mats with stitched edging like oem eould be better, this also allows scope for attaching a nice original heel pad from an old mat

To be clear lads, I'm ordering what I want. I'm just sharing the results with you guys. You can then all order solo or I can try and negotiate with them for an order of X but you can still specify whatever colour / edge combo you want as they hold it all in stock and it doesn't matter to them.

A group buy may yield discount only because it could be a decent chunk of business for them not because of economies of scale.

If I handle the group order, I'd rather we fixed the style but you can choose the colour. Lux pile, leatherette edging and older type oval fasteners on all the mats.

They seem to hold all the genuine E30 colours. As I said, their Indigo Blue is pretty spot on and that's quite a specific colour.

The "goldengate" style as described by andyboy are the type I have in my 323i. They have been there since the car was 4 years old and show little sign of wear, even though the car has now done 102k.

If I were to order some, I would go for the same type as they wear extremely well and keep the carpet protected from wet and dry.

Dude you can only order from what they have! Why doesn't anyone understand that?

The only choice you have is colour, premium or cheap fabric and edging style.

Then the tread title is pointless as they are not even close to genuine let alone genuine.

Leatherette edging and no heel pad is not OEM.

Stop being a 'tard- nobody else mistook this thread as vast sets of genuine mats are about to materialise out of thin air

And as we've lesbrt not all genuine mats for the E30, OEM ir retrofit are the same. My original mats didn't have a heel pad.

So let's wait and see how these turn out. Wading in with noise about you don't wantvthem if they aren't like this or that is pointless - THEY ARE NOT BEING OFFERED IN THE FIRST PLACE.
