Our '93 touring came with this wheel
Image
stolen Google image picture

I think it's about 380mm, does that sound right?

Anyway I picked up a nice little MOMO, and refurbished the leather
Image

But, although it's a lovely little wheel the view of the speedo above 30mph is atrocious. I think this is 360 or maybe even 350 mm.

So, who's got what and what's the 'perfect' compromise of size, comfort and visibility

:D

the momos are the best yes the view of the speedo is obscured a bit but they are way superior to either tec 1 or 2 as for the standard and the SE the less said the better.

I was thinking more boat than bus, but yes. Especially atm with a little bit too much play in the rack and knackered bushes on the back end. All of which are in hand but but in the mean time....

Sport Evo Tech II

Got it years ago when they were still sensibly priced. Think they are crazy money now, if you can find one.

+1.

However in my case I've had to go for a dished wheel to bring the wheel closer to me (bucket seats & floor-mounted pedal box and I'm fairly tall). Has a nice feel but your fingers need to get used to reaching for the indicater/wiper stalks :)

I quite like the SE wheel. Its the plastic 4 spoke poverty spec one that is the worst.

Tech 1 for me had them on 4 out of 5 of my E30's and an SE on the other which would be my other choice. Not a fan of the Tech 2

I don't actually mind the plastic 4 spoke! :o

But it has to be mint.

Best wheel for feel, size and looks is a 375mm tech 2 for me.

The small tech 2 wheel is very nice and a good size although in the touring i do like my big bus wheel!

When i bought the current car it came with sports evo wheel which is lovely but gets messed up from sweaty hands if you don't don the pedo gloves.

here is a gratuitous photo op!

^^^^^

I thought alcantara stopped your hands from sweating and provided better grip, compared to regular leather steering wheels?

Oil and muck from your hands will still build up over time unless you have inhumanly clean and dry skin, skin has oils in it and that's just how it is.

I do like the 3 spoke leather se wheel on the touring, just seems to suit the car even if it is a bit big.
What wheel is right is very much tainted by what rack you have fitted though.

Still on the standard rack, which did pick up and advisory on the last MOT for excess play. So ideal excuse to swap it. I've got another standard e30 one but if I'm going to the trouble of taking it out I think I'd rather put a quicker rack in.

Got a mint leather 370mm tech 1 wheel in my sport, can't beat the feel of it,

Best wheel by far.

Tech 2 wheel looks like it belongs in a e36.
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

For OEM I don't think the tech 1 can be beaten. I've had a tech 2 but I think they look too modern in an E30. My 3.5 E30 has no PAS so I think I'm going to have to get the wheel recovered in suede or go after market.

Tech 1 is looking like a good option and I agree the Tech 2 does look a bit too modern. Now just need to find an affordable one. And convince the wife it's what she needs in her life. After all it's supposed to be her car

This!

It's either an SE or tech 1.. Tech 2's look like they belong in a modern 1 series or something.

I shamely fancy the Nardi wood version. If you have the right color combo (bronzit with beige interior for instance) i think it could actually look quite good. Ad a wooden gearlever to accompany and thats it as far as wood goes in e30 imo.
Image

And in case you dont like wood.
Image

Or maybe some customisation if you really want something different.

Sports Evo wheel looks the best but would be scared to drive with it because of wear and tear... so rather settle for a Tech 2.

365mm. Best looking but a 370mm tech 2 feels better in the hands.
