I've seen the car mat fixings on realoem, but I've currently got nothing of the sort on carpet. No holes for these to screw into etc. How does this work? Do I force it?

I thought this but the threads quite long, so I'm assuming it's going to go into the floor pan if I just kept screwing

The carpet in the footwell is suprisingly thick, getting on for 2'',so the mat retainer's go through the carpet pile and hold in the foam underlay.
