Yes you are right, they never all had black aerials but they were meant to.

Mine for example had a chrome electric aerial, an Alpine pull out cassette deck (which i still have!) and a pair of Alpine two way speakers.

Theses were not fitted but the Supplying BMW dealer when the car was PDI'd, the first owner went else where for his audio.

Do they do them in Black?

Yes, BUT , you then have to enlarge the hole as the black ones are bigger :)

..maybe it'd only work on a 7 series or a Merc, a boomerang aerial could be an epic upgrade though :D

How do you know all Sports are meant to have black aerials ?

Btw are Alpine sound systems were they ever offered by BMW as Factory fit audio equipment :-) ?

Presumably you have the receipt to say where your Alpine was fitted by previous owners ?

Because ALL sports had shadow line trim and the black aerials are for cars with shadow line trim.

What's so hard to understand about that?

FACTORY fit audio in E30's was always branded BMW.

DEALER fit audio (which all but the last UK E30's had) was either Blaupunkt, Pioneer or Panasonic.

I do not have the receipt to say where the Alpine my car had when new was fitted.

So why were the Dealer fit audio options Blackpunt, Pioneer, Panasonic why were these not also offered as factory fit ?

What is the best factory fit audio for E30 when they were brand new ?

If a victim ponied up for a Blaupunkt Berlin / Bamberg they would have been a bit of a f0000king hero and a couple of bags poorer, in 1989 !

Alpines and all that shiny Jap tat was for the lower orders / Ilford types. Some things never change ! :)

Those after market brands were not factory fit because exactly that, they were after market brands offered by dealers as the cars came from the factory with no audio.

Audio was only factory fit when the hifi pack was ordered but this was normally on North American or German spec cars.

Please dont ask me why because i dont know, thats just the way it was.

As for what was best dealer fit? Well that depended on how deep your pockets were!

Look at the OEM audio thread in the audio section of this forum.

Iceman recommended me a setup
I said I wanted the best possible
I was being slightly hasty by saying Alpine is the best because iceman said it isn't but the setup he suggested is supposed to be very good for a newbie audiophile.
I didn't want any subwoofers and tbh I don't know what they do
I wanted to stick to OEM speaker sizes though I wanted an amplifier
I wanted a new system because has better technology and better quality than retro OEM Dealer Fit/Factory Fit ICE.

I was thinking of the general public, several hundred watts of Phil Collins could get you arrested and charged for serious public order offences, completely scuppering your dream of becoming a PCSO............

Su-su-sudio, and coming in the air (very popular with you, we know) with 100watts per channel is enough to have people throwing things at you Pony.

Pete gives good advice, you should have taken it!. :D

You can buy replacement masts, either from Hirschmann themselves, or on E-bay.
