Point is, if Dave can afford to bash 5 figures into his car, why the hell not. I would over buying a "new" car.

Lol Rich, why do you even bother?

There was a company offering a drive in drive out conversion but I can't remember their name. Ergen motorsports off here also does manifolds/ecu flashing/looms as well as conversions, would be an idea to PM them.

A lot of factors affect it like how much work will you be doing, are your chassis and brakes up to the job yet or will they need work etc

The "point" is, that I can. I could have bought one of these: http://www.hyundai.co.uk/new-cars/i10 and had a nice holiday with the change. There's obviously a market for them, but I'd rather have something a little more interesting.

As has been said, a lot depends on what spec. you're after and what you want to use it for.

I've rounded a few things up and a few things down, but here's a tiny taster of the big lumps of money. I've done everything myself with the exception of the exhaust and ECU work. I honestly couldn't tell you how many hours I've put into it, but it's a hell off a lot more than I imagined!

Car £1k
Engine/'box £3k (S62)
Suspension £1k
Wheels/tyres £1k
Brakes £1k
Exhaust £2k
ECU work £700
Fuel pump £250
Air filters £100
Seats £500
Steering wheel £100
Head gaskets and big ends £1200
LSD £250
Prop mods £120

I've spent well over 3 figures on nuts and bolts alone, a fair bit on wiring/relays/P-clips/fuel hose/hose connectors/hose clamps/wheel bearings/centre bearing/new hubs/wheel bolts/spacers/paint/carpet/guages/LSD rebuild etc etc etc. All the odds and sods really add up too, and I was unlucky to have to replace head gaskets. A couple of oil changes/filters and decent gearbox oil add up too with decent oils. 8O

Good luck!

Cheers. Dave. :D

Edited... Oh yeah...
Rad & fan £300
Engine/gearbox mounts £200...

£10k is a lot of money, I didn't even spend that on mine.

Just to do an engine conversion alone, aint that much at all really.
Cost of an e30, cost of e34 540 manual, then could do it for under £500 yourself or £2k ish if a garage does it.

There are most definitely less expensive ways of doing a conversion than I chose. I was merely stating what mine has cost me. (Just remembered I have a lightweight flywheel and decent clutch BTW...) I wanted an S62 and decided to have equal length headers made. Obviously you can build a 3 litre with modded stock manifolds and save probably near 4k over what I spent there alone! :D

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bmw-E32-E34-5 ... 417d162276

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/COIL-OVER-COI ... 2a38148306

Etc..

I'm not suggesting any of the other conversions on here would be using shonky suspension or whatever by the way. Just agreeing that there are choices. :D

Cheers. :)

I would also use lightly rusted pieces of dexian racking and "mount" any reservoirs with blue nylon rope and selotape. winkeye

Can't believe people are questioning why Dave spent what he did, go read his thread for what a proper conversion (not just the engine..) is all about.

Really?

This is the infamous E30zone where everyone likes everything as it was in the 80s and 90s, nothing modified outside of factory specs...

This is your perception of things, in reality most people on here like modified cars, the difference is those people like cars that are moddified properly, not cars that are bodged together by louts with hammers and cable ties

It is my opinion of the forum to be honest...

I do come on here to find some useful information, but that comes after much digging. The response by rich318i is all to common.

For example, the guy that asked about the 5stud conversion to his 325 turbo cab, which was welcomed with a slating of his set up because he hadnt noticed it before, "a slapped together bodged up job probably" if i remember correctly...

I know everyones free to their own opinions, but would it not be a better place if people answered the questions in hand, or kept their insults to themselves?

No one is questioning why he spent what he did, BUT the OP asked what the cost of an "engine conversion is". They didn't ask about brakes, welding, etc.

That is also my opinion on most of the members on here, too many OEM fags.

Why would you do a V8 conversion and not be interested in upgrading the suspension and brakes? Also whats the obsession with welding everything?

Why spend money on brakes and suspension ? :? As nobody can see them , why bother . Obviously serious players stretch to a pair of £123.79 coiloverz. Itz all about the gape, man :)

I'd pay money to see a V8 E30 driven on standard suspension brakes and wheels. 25 year old tyres would seal the deal. winkeye :rasta: :jester:

OP didn't ask for that, maybe they can do that themselves, but don't have the know how to do a v8 conversion.

Are they any e30's that don't need welding, or had welding done?
