Anyone know why these get called club sport racks? The e46 ones I didn't think they were rare at all

Because it makes them sound better :D

All e46 compacts got them, and I think most if not all facelift e46s. Earlier cars it seems a bit hit and miss.

But no, they're not that rare.
cheers,

Also it helps to bump up the price from the normal £40 to £120

Do a search I think there's a thread from a while ago about the differences but I'm sure someone on here with first hand experience of using them both in an E30 is that the normal rack is dangerously light steering.

Some internet reading suggests the purple tag clubsport rack was fitted to any E46 that had sport suspension, mostly the 330i, but could be any if the sport suspension box was ticked. This seems also to apply to the E46 compact.

If I read it right (it is late!), the clubsport rack has the same 3 turns lock to lock as a normal (mid '01 onwards) E46 rack, but it has a quicker ratio giving the better feel etc.
The earlier E46 rack is 3.2 turns lock to lock and with a different ratio again, it is not a good rack to use.

The purple tag rack is fitted all over the place depending on options and model of the car.
All racks with a purple tag ending in 067 will be the same, don't pay more than £50 for one.

A, They're the same turns lock to lock as the others but have a nicer weight to them. B, I think they were fitted as part of the msport pack but this got confused with the club sport somewhere along the line.
