I've just been made aware there are different types of brake line flares and that BMW use iso/din type flare, on the right below.

I've just got a bunch of stainless ones delivered and they are all the jap type. I need to make up new brake lines anyway, can they still be used or should I be sending hem back? I've got a goodridge braided lines kit to fit along with the rest.

They can't be made to work if I flared the pipe the right way? Are the braided line fittings specific to this kind of flare?

Its a braking system, don't mess about.

BMW designed a system that works safely and passes all required standards, etc.., don't modify it.

If pipes are of sufficient length, cut off incorrect ends and re-flare.

The braided line kit will work with the factory flare - the iso flare. If you look down into the fitting on the braided line, you will see it's concave and the angle of the seat matches the angle of the edge of the iso flare. The only way you could get the stainless lines to work would be to cut the flares off them and re-do with the correct flare - but then you may find the lines would be too short. Best avoiding the hassle, sending them back and just getting either factory BMW lines or make your own from a roll of kuni :)

Their just stainless brake pipe nuts, I couldn't find (didn't try) stainless pipe :p

I've spoken to the guy I got them of, should be able to send them back and get the correct ones made.

Yeah they're for female double flares. You need metric (M10) male fittings with flat shoulders, like these:

You need the stubby ones like the ones in the pic too. The longer ones won't allow the pipe spring-clip (where hardling meets flexi line) to provide any tension :)

Here's a brake nut I cut from where the abs pump used to be, I'm going with the assumption that it's original? It's roughly 16mm overall

Yep - the original should be M10 x 1, metric male. These are what you want, but you may be able to get a bulk pack from a reputable ebay seller if that's what you want:
