[quote="bss325i"]The side mech covers, runners and handles are all E30 on the retrimed ones posted so i would say they are E30. Lower Bolster foams look very squashed though and early E30 recaro LS side bolsters were a different shape and very similar to E21 LS's.)

I Think this is correct, because i have a pair of E30 front LS'S and they look identical to the E21 LS front seat of which i have owned many, but different to other E30 front LS seats like Jim's ones advertised on e bay . IMO both look good, but i recon the later seat will hold a larger frame (fat coont) better, the early seat is more suited to the slimmer frame (skinny coont) like me.! :)

I believe these were the early E21 type

And the golf ones were exactly the same as the later LS minus the leg extension

Are you 100% on that Barry? I have two pairs of LS squirrelled away, they are both in 0150 trim (83-85) early check and I am confident they are "later" bolster shape? One pair are from a C plater with the early two piece front valance, two piece main carpet (carpet and foam seperate) and rear seat belts bolted on The C pillar. The other pair I do not know the origins.
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

Well Fert that's the thing, I have seen the bigger bolster LS's in the early cloth like you have but I have definitely seen a few E30's with the slimmer booster recaros that were original to the car.

Maybe the change over was earlier in '85 but going by the realoem date, it says 9 for sept which coincides with the change from 323i to 325i and the other minor metal bumper E30 changes such as the front valence, cloth, carpet speaker covers etc.

Maybe the recaro LS change over was earlier that year and the realoem date for the seat is wrong.

I remember Paul cook having trouble getting mech parts for his LS's, I'm sure his are earlier ones.

They are very similar in shape but all the mechs and runners are completely different.

Anything can be made to fit with cutting, drilling, welding bodging etc.

Not the same, they are different shaped foams.
Out of the lot though, the Golf is the closest to E30

Some pics of mine from when I was repairing them, this is the drivers side, the foam is always the most damaged part, to get the squashed corners back is the hardest part

Yes 100% later type. The upper bolster on the early ones have a point low down where are the later type have a deeper flatter section lower down.

And here's another pic of the earlier type although they are trimmed in early Alpina cloth normally used on E21/early E28 cars.

This must have been a real early E30 to have that Alpina cloth, an '83 C1 2.3 probably.

Balls... Is it just the side bolsters that are different or the bottom bolsters too? Need to pay more now to get the best version for my car!

The door cards really clash :( just doesn't look right!
Epic seats but interior looks shite because of non-matching stuff!

Well it looks like the early ones are LX's not LS's like the later ones!

Good find Mark!

Indeed it would seem so Barry and those later ones are LSB's like you had in the sport for a while. I found that on a US forum some time ago when I was looking at options for the M535.
