Got a couple of bits for the e30s that I need profiling by a waterjet.
Unfortunately the only companies local to me want batches 10000's, so I was wondering if anybody has had any experience or can recommend me a company to do the work?

I don't understand why you would have to order more than one, it's just a case of adding your cad drawing to a space on the sheet, takes no time

Preferably water cut, however it is only mild steel at 20mm, so laser cut isn't to much of an issue

Surely you'd be there for years trying to EDM 20mm steel?

Edm?

Have never heard of that!
I have lots of components that I require doing, the reason for short batch runs is for testing to start with, but even so im still only ever going to require that amount that are ordered.

Frustrating as google search only brings up the biggest companys around

Electrical discharge machining. It basically erodes the material away through sparking.

I would imagine that laser or abrasive water jet is your best option for 20mm thick steel, but at that thickness you may start to have issues with tapering and poor finish on the exit side.

My friends dad is a blacksmith and gets stuff laser cut by a company in wiltshire. I had some carb adaptor plates done last year in 10 and 5mm mild steel. I'll see if I can find out who the company is.

Thanks very much, yes it's why I preferred water as it gives a cleaner cut and finer tolerances
Sad thing about British industry is I can get it machined in Poland for half the price but unable to monitor the wuality

When going British, I've discovered the eccentric man in a shed who has an outhouse for a toilet does the best and cheapest job.

(And I do know an eccentric man who works in what could be described as a shack, with an outhouse, who does good, cheap machine work. He drives a 190E though.)
