You might as well do the inlet manifold gaskets and the throttle body gasket whilst its all apart.
There is also the o-rings on the oil breather pipe between the inlet manifold and the block.

while your at it have the injectors cleaned (unless you have had them done recently).
I assume your getting the head pressure tested?..if not add this to your list.

was thinking of inlet manifold ones, but thought they might of come with head gasket set. and about the breather is that meant to have a filter. thanksRtaylor2208 wrote:You might as well do the inlet manifold gaskets and the throttle body gasket whilst its all apart.

how much do they usually cost, and yeah. and about that. when scrapping the gasket off, is it the head or block you have to try not to score. theres no gasket left over on the head. but a few bits on the block. thanksaimlessrock wrote:while your at it have the injectors cleaned (unless you have had them done recently).

No filter on the Oil breather pipe, just the O rings.hammersfan12 wrote:was thinking of inlet manifold ones, but thought they might of come with head gasket set. and about the breather is that meant to have a filter. thanksRtaylor2208 wrote:You might as well do the inlet manifold gaskets and the throttle body gasket whilst its all apart.

Good idea to compress the spring from the breather pipe, with
a strong cable tie once you have removed it, makes it much
easier to re- position.

cool, thanks. was just worried about damaging the block. and got a price for skimming and pressure tested £110. don't know if thats good or not.
My headgasket blew a while back and bacicaly it is best the get your head (cylinder head) skimmed, then clean all surfaces with abit of thinners. new head gasket new inlet and exhaust gasket. Also a good idea to slap a load of head gasket sealant on all the surfaces that will be clamping the gasket. Mine is now running smoothly about a 3hr job. Hope this helped

Strange thing is that BMW's have inline engines, unlike lesser vehicles.
So the fan is driven via a viscous coupling, which means that when the engine stops,so does the fan!

I would strongly recommend getting the cylinder head place to strip and rebuild your head. Might cost a few more quid but it's well worth it to avoid the risk of damaging anything, I say this as it happened to me, I damaged one of the cam journal bearings whilst removing the cam

If it helps, they're the same as the injector ones.
