My MOT station always shows me any areas where there is an issue, I'd be going back and asking for detail which will help you identify the problem.

Take a look - 'corrosion' may just be surface rust that can be rubbed down then re-painted, but more often than not, there may well be some holes to repair.

essentially there's some crusty areas, near mounting points for your suspension. could be around the strut tops by the look of the report.

you may have a seriously over zealous MOT tester, or abit of welding to do. As above first thing to do is talk to the tester and get him to show you the areas of concern. then you can go about getting a quote to get it fixed, might not be a game ender :)

offside front brake hose ferrule corroded - The connection from the pipe to the hose on that side needs replacing. That may mean a new hose, new pipe or both.

offside front (brake area) suspenton component mounting area corroded - Not really sure on this one.

offside front (floor) suspension component mounting area corroded - Most likely the factory jacking pad on the offside.

nearside front (floor) suspension component mounting area corroded - Same as above but on the nearside.

offside rear (inner sill) suspension component mounting area corroded - What it says really. Inner lip of the sill near the rear probably has a hole in it.

offside rear (tank area) suspension component mounting area corroded
nearside rear (tank area) suspension component mounting area corroded

Not sure on these two but if you went back I'm sure they could show you what they mean. If you looked underneath, you may even find some yellow chalk markings of where the affected areas are.

Otherwise, as others above have said, go back and ask for an explanation. All the problems will most likely require welding though and the bill for that could be rather expensive.

For reference, the offside of the vehicle is that furthest from the kerb (drivers side) and the nearside that closest to the kerb (passengers side).

Probably rust to bulkhead under brake servo (behind glovebox type area)
skivvey wrote:offside front (floor) suspension component mounting area corroded
Jacking point/floor
skivvey wrote:nearside front (floor) suspension component mounting area corroded
As above
skivvey wrote:offside rear (inner sill) suspension component mounting area corroded
Rear end of sill near wheel arch.
skivvey wrote:offside rear (tank area) suspension component mounting area corroded
Inner rear arch.

A fair amount of welding by the looks of it :(

Is every part of a car described as a "suspension component" in MoT speak ?

For reference;
the offside is the righthand side
the nearside is the lefthand side

Both as viewed from the driver's position looking forward.

Therefore the position of the driver's seat is not relevant.

Corrosion within 300mm of a suspension mounting point is an MoT fail.

So E30wise,a hole in the driver's footwell will be within the prescribed area in relation to the rear wishbone mounting.

At the rear, the cill/more door opening base area is well within the prescribed area in relation to the rear beam mount.

On the upside,it seems very rare to find front turrets that have rusted out!

ok finally got hold off the mot inspector and luckily its not to bad of a job with the welding it was just random holes within 300mm from a structural point and the works not that bad :) all apart fro, two holes witch are where the fuel tank straps are attached to the back off the car :( but as i need a new tank shall kill 2 birds with one stone now just to put an add up for a tank :)

Fuel tank bolts in with five bolts....
Not worth buying a s/h one,it will be rusty around the filler neck and the tank seam.
GSF/ECP will supply for about £150,although some-one did find a decent pattern one a lot cheaper recently,so a search may be in order!

fair enoth well the rust is where two off the rear bolts screw into the body area lol :) and yer i been looking at some second hand ones on ebay and they look good but all the filler necks on the tanks are a bit rusty so for the extra buck i may as well get a new one and gsf quoted me £170 so we shall see but just waiting for my mate whos doing the welding to get the tank off so i can have a look and see if its the tank or filler pipe thats leaking as its a bit to tight to see properly still on the car :(
