Im after a little bit of advice.
I have bought a 318 (m40) cab. For the next couple of years insurance dictates that a 1.8 is the only option. I have had the car for a few months and spent a fair bit on the old girl. Both rear arches have been replaced and there is virtually no rust on the car. Mechanically the car is sound. There are a couple of areas where the paint condition could be better but after a good wax and she looks good as new. The interior is exactly what I want just put in some new leather seats and replaced all of the stereo electics.
When I can get insured on it what I really want is a tech 2 2.5 litre turbo. My question is am I better off saving the cash that I would plow into this car for the next two years and buy a tech 2 to turbo when the time comes. Or should I stick with the shell I know has no rust problems and is pretty solid and buy a tech 2 kit and do the engine swap and associated work?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

If you're after a 2.5 turbo, you're better off using a saloon bodyshell that will be stiff enough to cope with the extra power, rather than a floppy cabriolet.

If you're of the age where you have to worry over 2.5 litre insurance, then you're a looonnnnggg way off affording the insurance on a turbo'd 2.5 litre with all the declared mods on what will by then be a 30 year old car.

Keep your cab and keep it tidy since cabs hold their value well, and reassess your financial situation in a few years. By that time your tastes and priorities may have changed, at which point you can sell the cab for what it is - a decent summer cruiser - and plough your money into your Fast and Furious wankfantasy.
