Black one - blue temp sensor
Brown one - brown temp sender sensor
Located just to the right outside this picture between the manifold and rocker cover attached on the thermostat.
At least I'm sure that's what it is

There is already a blue and brown plug connectors already connected there.

Roll the rubber boots back and tell us the colours of the wires.
Are the wires coming from the engine loom, the body loom, or a separate sub loom?

They are coming from the fuse box.
The rocker cover and intake manifold were removed and powder-coated now that the body-shop put everything back together the car doesn't fire over. Spark is coming through.

Thought it might be this! Is/was this a 2 litre? There was a problem with some M20 engines over fuelling at startup, which BMW apparently couldn't eliminate with software changes. Their solution, on cars that were submitted with this problem, was to add this small circuit which uses a relay to connect a resistor in parallel with the coolant temperature sensor when the starter motor is operated. This 'fooled' the engine ECU into thinking the engine was already warm, so it didn't inject excessive fuel.
Every one I've come across, I've binned with no ill effects.

Assuming you've checked fuel is also coming through, and if it was for any reason removed the lines are on the right way on?

They will have been disconnected, and it's very likely they are now the wrong way around. Disconnect the lines, give the starter a very short pulse, and see which line petrol comes from.
The OTHER pipe goes to the fuel pressure regulator.

The fuel feed and return lines. The rubber fuel hoses from low down at the back left of the engine bay to the fuel rail on the inlet manifold. One goes straight to the rail and the other to the pressure regulator.
