Turns out I'm not too bad at it either.

This is my 3rd attempt

Should be handy for when the inevitable rust fest strikes my so far relatively unrusty chromie

Also stripped down my old auto gearbox as part of a uni assignment. It's spotless in there. For something that's 26 years old and done 80k miles, and never had an oil change, you wouldn't know it

Congratulations! It's definitely handy to know you can weld, as it relieves some of the stress come MOT time. 8)

Cheers man. Don't think I can bring myself to let the lance near my car (not in my hands anyway), but I'll keep on practicing and practice makes perfect ;)

Indeed, after a few trial runs (I practiced on an old Mini bonnet for my first efforts), you'll soon be well away. :)

Haha, I understand it'll be harder upside down with my head wedged between the sill and the floor.

That auto box is never going back together. I knew that 10 minutes in when a load of plastic ball bearings fell out and went everywhere!

Odd how youngsters are good at pulling things to bits, but crap at putting 'em back together....

I remember pulling my dad's pocket watch to bits as a child...

My lad just 'Wanted to learn how the video recorder worked'.... :D

And the funny dance you do when some molten weld melts its way through your trainers.

Yeah! leather boots all the way; although don't wear steel toecaps when welding since my father regaled me with an story from the ships involving some molten metal down the inside of a steel boot that couldn't get out...

I've had that! Welding gloves help a lot but I've still got plenty of splatter down my neck or burn through clothes.

I had that working as a labourer when I was about 17.. Only it was molten from an engineering block I was cutting. Watched it burn through my trainer with amazement, unbeknown of what might happen next.
