Inspection Lights after reset
Moderator: martauto
Afternoon all
I bought one of those Draper reset tools and reset the inspection lights on the car this weekend. It seems to have worked but I'm a bit confused as to why the first 2 green lights do not come on when I put the ignition on but the next 3 do. Is this correct or should all 5 come on?
If so what could be the likely problem?
Also does anyone have a pic of all the lamps lit up with the wording above? And is the display the same for all e30's? Mine's a 1989 320i.
Cheers

remove the cluster (takes 5 mns) and youl see the bulbs in the back, any local motor factors etc will have them, someone on her e will confirm what ones they are exctlyZARS wrote:hmm, that's what I was thinking. Is it possible to swap from another set of clocks?

The green 'bulbs' are LEDs, so it's unlikely they've failed, but there are three filament bulbs on the display board as well for the 'clock' and oil service legends'. These can fail, but have no bearing on your problem.
The display is on a separate plug in daughter board, so can easily be swapped from another SI board, but as already said, the SI board batteries are the likely culprit, or the board could simply have gone wrong.
Have you ever seen all five green LEDs on while the car has been in your ownership?

Thanks chaps. I'll have a go at the SI batteries to see if that changes anything. I've only owned the car about a month and bought it with the yellow/red lights showing but the car had been serviced by the previous owner. He just didn't have the reset tool.
Would I be right in saying that the green lamps go out from left to right the closer it gets to service time?

no the lights come on !! once reset all the lights should stay off, all lights should go on when you turn ignition, then all go off and stay off , then the lights come on over time indicating when you need the service thats how it works, so when the last/red light is on or whatever it is after months, thats when the serice is needed
i think that the case anyway from memory

Yes Zars, the lights go out from the left as you get closer to service time. The last one to go out is beside the orange light. As Polsta correctly says, the green lights go out when you start the engine.
