toyo t1r tyres
Moderator: martauto
hi, just wanted some feedback on toyo t1r tyres. are they any good? and what would be a good price to pay for a set of 4 part worns? the reason i ask is someone who appears to live right near me is selling a set on ebay, and at the moment they are going for practicly nothing. but i have kumho's on mine, which ones are better?

i have no experiance of the kumho tyres so i cant tell you which are better. But i run toyo t1r's and they are great, fantastic in the wet.
i payed £50 a tyre brand new if that helps

ok but people on here seem to overrate toyos i suppose because they come from something worse. In my 15 years of e30 ownership and over 250k of driving in them the best tyres i have had on them are bridgestone potenza eagle f1's and vredstein sportrac 3's.
i dont think anyone says it is, but im sure the bridgestone and vrestein are a lot more ££ ?
never liked the idea of fast wearing tyres, in that prioce range the falken i thought were decent, il be having this dilema myself soon as i have all sorts of tyres here, think i have 2 near new kumhos , might get another 2 new and give them a go

toyos are popular because theyre great value, not everyone wants to spend £150 a corner!
In my opinion theyre a great road tyre, good grip wet or dry, not too noisy and wear rate is acceptable.
Theyre not perfect because theyre not so good on track. theyre quite easy to overheat unless youre driving something very light.
Theyve been my default road tyre for years now, i've tried various others in the same prce bracket, and a few more expensive ones, but always end up coming back to toyo t1-r. I've also found they dont wear any quicker than anything else in the price range despite feeling quite soft. Ive had both falken 452 and 912 and rate toyos far higher in wet or dry performance, and about equal wear rates, and on track where a pair of toyos melted a bit so you could see where the tread had been moving about the pair of falkens on the other end started falling to bits with little chunks of treadblock falling off!
there's currently a set of 4 t1-r on my e30 m3, my e36 m3 and the mrs' mk2 golf gti!

T1R's for me as well, on my E30's and my 306 diesel. Have tried F1's and Yoko's and prefer the Toyo's and they are are cheaper and have more tread.
Only complaint I have is that when new they have about an inch of tread (no bad thing in itself), but you can feel the tread blocks move under hard cornering. Easily sorted after a few miles though

As said already, the most impressive thing about the t1-r's is the value. They're a great all rounder, and like a few others here I run them on both my e30 and e36. They are quite confidence inspiring on the road to be honest, more grip per $ than most other tyres in that price bracket!

Yep, they are my default choice too and I may get a set chucked on the E46 wagon soon, but I also really rate Uniroyal Rainsports too.

+1 on the rainsports! That's another tyre I've enjoyed using in the past, nice looking too!E30BeemerLad wrote:Yep, they are my default choice too and I may get a set chucked on the E46 wagon soon, but I also really rate Uniroyal Rainsports too.

I don't know, I sold the car to Dazleeds before I got any real wear out of them. But the grip was staggering and managed to cause the passenger side rear subframe bush to delaminate on a fast trip around a large roundabout. It was an effort to get the back end out with them on in the dry.
i think they may be my choice weapon , staggering grip sounds good, does the "rain sport" mean they are decent wet tyres ? / more aimed at the wet ? or are they a summer sort of tyre ? as im not planning on driving mine n the wet often if i can help it

Agree with the others, good vallue and decent grip in the dry. I don't find them amazing in the wet but still go well. I do think though they are on a par with Falkens which I've also used and the Falkens can be a little cheaper.

I ran a thread, not so long ago, regarding tyre recommendations. Got various responses, but no really winner IMO. The gist being; good brand =good tyre.
That is the easy answer and not what I really wanted to know. I was seeking evaluations based on use.
Since then, I have taken a look at the boots most seem to be wearing and it looks like the toyo is the one. I am about to fit a set shortly, and these are the ones I'm going for. I like the price, tread pattern and other stuff regarding wet/dry grip. As long as this is good in the dry, that will be perfect for me, as the car doesn't go out when it's moist, let alone wet

I bought Toyos for my E30 based on how happy I was with them on my old Astra gsi. I felt they had a faster wear on them than other tyres I'd used, but I've never had issues in the wet or dry with them. They are a good branded tyre but in lower prices brackets.
I probs wouldn't change fro what you have unless they are near changing, but of the Toyos are going that cheap, it's worth buying them even if its to keep as spares.

I've driven a hundreds of different types of tyres in my life and in my eyes for the money you cant get a better set of shoes, unless you look at spending double the price give or take a little

i just think its more important to have the same tire on all 4 corners
even if there cheapys its better that there the same tire
i always try to buy the best quality 4 tires i can afford on all my long term cars
this e30 (ive had it 5years) came with odd tires and poor handling
the toyos sorted that out
