Is granite silver an original colour? If so, I would stick with it.

IIRC it was one of the rarest colour's for an e30, (could be wrong though).Gert_8 wrote:Is granite silver an original colour? If so, I would stick with it.
on any e30 it look's fantastic.
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

Re-paint in the same colour or have the paintwork machine polished to restoe/enhance the lustre.

plus to do a full color change properly, is immense work, and not worth doing with just a blow over
a full re spray and new trim etc would be wiser spent to make ti look like new
i do like the colour had to change a couple of panels one being the boot and wings for straighter ones and without a silly tech 2 spoiler so will need whole car doing anyway nothing has been set in stone just thought as the car is going in maybe go that extra bit had have a colour change inside and out.
as for the response granite silver i'm guessing it is a nice colour and not worth changing

thing is to do a full re spray would cost x amount, but to do a proper color change, how far do you go to erradicate the original color, places like beind the door cards and all door trim, under parcel shelf and inside bulkhead behind dash, etc etc, complete inside with 100% interior removed, plus all front and rear panels and 100% engine bay with everything removed, would be a total nightmare unless it was a 100% strip and re build of the whole car
at the mo i don't use the car so all work can get done my friends dad owns a car paint repair workshop so would be stripped completey to bare inside out inc engine as looking to do engine conversion at the same time once paintwork is done as is only a mere 318i auto but again deciding on the best conversion aswell but i'm in no rush as got till next year now until i would like it donepolsta wrote:thing is to do a full re spray would cost x amount, but to do a proper color change, how far do you go to erradicate the original color, places like beind the door cards and all door trim, under parcel shelf and inside bulkhead behind dash, etc etc, complete inside with 100% interior removed, plus all front and rear panels and 100% engine bay with everything removed, would be a total nightmare unless it was a 100% strip and re build of the whole car

Granite is reletively rare on an e30, last of the line stuff. it's also one of the nicest colours they did.
Devalue your car by changing it's originality by all means but I'd be painting it the same colour.

Go for it mate I've done it myself, gone from the brilliant red you see below to A22 sparkling graphite just becuse all 318is I see are red. I took the lot out engine, dash, loom, carpets, doors, tank, fuel and brake lines just left some old struts in toburnout wrote:at the mo i don't use the car so all work can get done my friends dad owns a car paint repair workshop so would be stripped completey to bare inside out inc engine as looking to do engine conversion at the same time once paintwork is done as is only a mere 318i auto but again deciding on the best conversion aswell but i'm in no rush as got till next year now until i would like it donepolsta wrote:thing is to do a full re spray would cost x amount, but to do a proper color change, how far do you go to erradicate the original color, places like beind the door cards and all door trim, under parcel shelf and inside bulkhead behind dash, etc etc, complete inside with 100% interior removed, plus all front and rear panels and 100% engine bay with everything removed, would be a total nightmare unless it was a 100% strip and re build of the whole car
move it around. There good to work on no real issues just take plenty off pictures to refresh you mind on the refit.

Your V5 document will still have it on the original colour. Did you have that changed too?
