Hi there, I have been reading up alot about the sumps getting smashed to pieces on the 316's.

how can you combat this then? would you need to raise the engine, if so how?

sump guards seem like a good idea, but whats the best material, and mounting points?

what about sumps, are there any aftermarket sumps that dont hang as low? any that have guards built onto them already?

Very simple to avoid smashing the sump! Just don't fit your car with ridiculously lowered suspension.

How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

Your question has been answered above . Just because you do not like the answer, does not mean it is not correct.

We are still waiting patiently on pics of your bird/sister/brothers/pets /cousins , even your Yaris if you must. Come on play the game ! :)

Thats weird, fair enough...I've not had any problems with mine and had it for about 6 years. Maybe the standard springs had gone weak and it was sitting low? Hope you get it sorted!

I don't own an e30 yet, I'm getting my research together for when I purchase one in the new year! :)

I do imagine, however, it's going to be a very marmite affair, with most people on the dislike side of things! ;)

Ah ok cool... Though the M40 engine is not loved...a good one is still decent, but try to find a lower mileage one...it wasn't the sporty type so there may still be some about...then service it welk and look after it. I can't help prefering the idea of having the 318is with the M42 engine...from what I gather they are given engineering president.

Just don't drive like a mong and your sump will be fine. It's a sorry day when the stance/driftycocks raise engines to save sumps :(

Your Yari thread is still going, it's in the other marques section near the bottom of the forum. After reading through it I too am awaiting pictures of you/your friends backscuttling a school girl on the bonnet

if you cant manage your car without breaking sumps, then the solution is either buy a different car, be careful,
or drysump FTW

I understand your pain my friend(ive been through three lol).. The sad thing is the sump on the m40 hangs very low and is the first thing that gets damaged, because it stick out the most. I managed to get hold of a e36 compact sump guard and a guy who does drifting fitted modified it on with cable ties and a few bolts.(this is apparently normal in the scene a bit bodge looking at first but once you cover it with the plastic cover from the front look okay) ....the result ...no damage since having it on... because the speed humps are all different shapes and sizes it is always a tough one..... I hit the guard knowing that all is well with the sump.

don't worry i got stick for smashing up sumps and was told that i must drive like a' floppy willy' i think lol...but its all banter.
