The one I'm looking for is to take to Spain. It will spend 47 weeks a year under a cover in a well ventilated garage with an ambient temperature not dropping below 15 degrees. For the 5 weeks a year it will be used, it will be in sunny weather, and will be cleaned and valeted before every time I come home.
The plan is to get one without Tin Worm, and hopefully the above will keep it away.
Is there anything I need to watch out for, as the car will be in a coastal location, and will effectively be used instead of the crappy, boring hire cars I usually finish up with on holiday.
your e30...getting wet/driving???

I use mine in all conditions , damp being my favourite! Especially with the amount of nice roundabouts on my daily work route.
Must admit though , I tend to avoid driving it in snow... they're not tail happy in the snow , they're just shit!

I meant cleaning the underbody and the arches from all the salt every time you drive it in the winter if you were to drive it then ?bss325i wrote:Pony, what hassle.
Suchy, the 80's was 20+ years ago and the cars were new.
20+ winters have taken their their toll on most E30's!
E30 cab, daily driver for the last three years - not afraid of miles or dirt. Have however recently bought an E36 and plan on using the E30 for summer/fair weather only.

Sold: 1986 E30 325i Cabriolet, Alpine White
I was aiming that comment at people who seem to be scared of driving their E30 in the rain due to it's uncontrollable tail-happy antics!!bss325i wrote:Suchy, the 80's was 20+ years ago and the cars were new.

I am well aware of 20+ winters
Ah I see now!
Some people are just pussies lol!
Either that or more likely their turd has all the handling dynamics of 3 legged goat due to the Chinese tyres, eBay ghetto slam springs and 20+ year old f*cked bushes!

Anyone seen the review of the E36 325i in this month's BMW Car magazine .... And how they tamed the typical 3 Series tail happy handling trait with the debut of the E36 Z1 derived rear axle. See the back pages. I personally love the tail happy antics and have had it sideways a few times usually because in the wet I put too much throttle to early. Been close to the wall a few times. E46 just gives you so much more confidence though on the brakes and in the wet. Comparing E30 to E46 again when braking particularly in corners you can feel how much more sure footed the E46 is especially with ASC / DSC on
I wanna hear what the beast of E21 323i is like to drive in its hey day lol

12 years ago I came very close to buying a purple (resprayed from Polaris silver) E21 323i with an eta 2.7 block and schrick cam. It was at some dodgy used car front in Penge, south London and i happened to know the trader as he worked the doors in Croydon as well so he let me take it out on my own!
There was plenty of rubber layed down on the streets of Penge that day in my much more irresponsible days. It had a tight LSD but was still a twitchy mofo. LOVED IT.
Alas, I bought a 240bhp series 2 rs turbo instead which was much faster but no where near as fun!
Just that test drive and RS ownership on its own makes for a far better and exciting car history tale than mine...bss325i wrote: FUN!
