yet another problem...

Driving from the mrs yesturday, started the car and heard a spinning sound, so drove on. come to fill up at the garage, tryed to start again, and nothing just the spinning of my starter. had a look under the bonnet and the f*ckin starter hanging on by its wires.

not had the car long, but didnt really think to check that area, bottom starter bolt hole snapped at the casing with bolt still in gearbox and no bolts it the other holes, doesnt even look been any in, no spanner marks etc. Took pics will upload soon

Just called my local car spares, looking £110 for starter, need it done for saturday, or id buy one off ebay

so has the starter actually failed then or just come off the mounting? just from the first post if its spinning up it doesnt sound like its failed.

Its came off the mouting but the bottom hole of starter has broken off, so cant fix at that point

hard to see what youv done there mate, have you welded a new locating nut on?

cant see why that woudlnt work, so long as the started sits in its original location, i cant see why that wouldnt save you £120

if thats part of the old starter you could put some metal strip from that bolt to the good one and that would hold it in place till you get one from ebay saving you a lot.it must have had a thump to it in the past,possible jammed.

Thats from the old starter. Found a place 57quid brand new, collecting later , any one know if the bolts are m10? And how long? Thanks

Is that an M20 engine?

Starter is difficult to get at,sometimes just one bolt is fitted when the thing is swapped and the other one ends up in the 'fitters' pocket....first time that I have seen a snapped motor body,though.

they shear after a whack,or if one bolt is loose......i had a dodgy one( turned out to be immobiliser)that i whacked to start and that done same thing
