Have had my E30 325 Convertible off the road for 15 months now, stored in my garage as I have not needed it or had the time to fix a few issues it had, spent the last couple of weeks getting it ready for MoT by fixing lighting issues (rear lights not working, replacing number plate lights as they were corroded and needed drilling out and rewired front indicators)
Also adjusted the handbrake but when taking apart one of the discs noticed that the springs had pulled through the back plate. Managed to get the springs back into the back plate but they have come out again.

Anyway enough rambling the failure reasons for the MoT are:
Service Brake Efficiency: 47% (Felt dodgey driving it to the garage)
Park Brake Efficiency: 18%
Wipers not parking (will take the motor out and clean it up - standard problem)
A number of lights are now not working again (they were when I checked yesterday though) - number plates, offside rear light.
Rear nearside Indicator incorrect colour (Orange plastic has faded on that side)
Both Front Suspension arm Bush deteriorated

After they checked the sill there are now 2 small holes near the rear offside Jacking point which I will have plated for now to get through the MoT.

Enjoyed driving it for first time in ages so will be trying to sort it out over the next week to get back for them to put a plate on the jacking point holes.

Need to get some new rotor mounting screws and they are not listed on Euro Car parts or Car parts 4 less but have ordered new disks, bushes and I have new pads, shoes and shoe fitting kit (which includes some inserts that would fit into the back plate to hold the retaining screws without pulling through the plate).

OK, so after fixing everything (or so I thought) when I took it for the retest the handbrake failed still. The handbrake has never quite been right since I had the car and has been adjusted at each MOT by garages to get it through but this time it wouldn't work even after I changed the shoes and freed the mechanism. it is only drivers side not engaging correctly

It was only as I was resorting to changing the cable and putting WD-40 down the tunnel to try to help get it out that I noticed the cable on the drivers side was not positioned around the shaped metal and was instead coming out of the tunnel direct to the handbrake. A couple of seconds to loosen, re-route and adjust and now it has gone through the MOT!!!!

Now to wait for Road Tax and I'll be driving it properly for the first time in 18 months! :P :P :P
