M-Tech was/is a package consisting of BodyKit, Suspension upgrade and various cabin addons. Nothing was done to upgrade the power of the engine.

M or MotorSport package was/is a performance upgrade that included all of the M-Tech package PLUS an Engine/Transmission upgrade.

No. Just the M, as in M3 M5 and so on...... (M short for Motorsport/BMW Power engines)

The 325i "MotorSport" was a marketing thing, a bit like a poor mans M3 thing, placebo effect....

Yes, the sports gearbox and LSD as an option with M-Tech, but the "Full" Motorsport pack got the lot as standard.

You could of had any option fitted to any E30, minus the S14.....

There is no such thing as an M-tech E30 as such, M-tech is just the styling/upgrade department of BMW, which consists of pretty much of suspension, and styling.

BMW motorsport is a totally seperate factory in Garching, where they specialise in the real M cars.

M3 stuff was for M powered cars only, I think it used to be that if you went to a main dealer after an M3 part, they would only supply one if you had an M3 VIN.

That was more for rarer M3 models, such as Sport evo, or alpina parts, what I'm saying is, I doubt you could have ordered a 325i sport with M3 suspension.

You could ask for different things such as colours, and different steering wheels, etc, but when it comes to suspension/engines etc, BMW wouldn't have gone that far, and would have kept some exclusivity.

Would be very nice, I think the only thing that's preventing people doing it now, is the cost of the parts 2nd hand!

i wouldn't say the 'M/Motorsport' is a package - it's a whole different car! you don't upgrade to it, you just plain buy it! that's like saying i went to my bmw dealer and 'upgraded' to an audi at the audi dealer next door :O

the way i see it is.... m technic is basically a sport bodykit, pre facelift/facelift model. as said earlier m-tech extras(gear knob,pedals,interior(recaro)l.s.d,variouse engine upgrades)
the legendary ///M3 has got a m technic bodykit but it will only fit the ///M3, then we have got the engines..... s14 m power vs m20, 4 cylinder vs 6, the m3 has 215bhp stock, m20 has 171bhp stock, you do the maths. i belive that the suspension is different, 325is has m-technic springs on standard shocks(correct me if im wrong) i think the ///M3 has a completley different setup.

It's not m-technic, and it's not a bodykit, M-technic and the M power department are totally different!

The badge is easily added.

This could turn into a 'should it have an M-badge post' pretty soon!!

In the UK, we had the 325i sport which was based on a 2 door 325i, had bodykit, m-tech suspension, sport seats, LSD, close ratio gearbox, M-tech steering wheel and gearknob, and a few other options which came as standard, there was also the 325i motorsport convertible, which was based on the convertible (obviously!) which was pretty much the same spec as the 325i sport, but came in some nicer colours, and extra leather bits.
These cars, more often than not, quite rightly (IMHO(bring it on moofles)) wear the M-tech badge front and rear, due to the added M-technic parts.
M-technic was the inhouse styling dept for BMW, and is nothing to do with the actual motorsport division of BMW.

Hope that helps!
