Typical drops are M-Tech -15mm (as on Sports and 318is), then -35/40mm, and -60mm.
It's best not to drop more than about 35mm, else you end up with heavy wear on the inside of the rear tyres.

There are usually many in that size to choose from, ranging from cheap E-bay ones to more expensive, reputable brands such as Spax, Jamex, Pi, H&R, Eibach, etc.
Cheap ones are best avoided; I once owned a 320iSE that had cheap lowering springs fitted by a previous owner, and it failed the MOT because the front ones were loose in the struts and the rears had distorted badly. I refitted some original BMW spares I had from my first 320i (to which I had fitted -40mm springs!)
I would say that the sump clearance is OK with -35/40mm springs, but you wouldn't really want to go any lower.
There may be a set of Eibachs for sale here:

Eibachs and H&R springs seem most popular choice. I think H&R springs are meant to make for a stiffer ride.
