I've not seen any official stats, but another E30 board suggested fewer than 30 were ever made, which would make this one rare beast! They're legit E30s though, just like all the other Baurs.

i've seen one at Gaydon, might of been this car. The baur's really dropped off in 86 when the factory cabs appeared. You had to really want/like one after bmw's own effort.
The baur conversion was an option. Pending you were buying a 2 door model you could have one.
There was a conversion for the e36 not long after it came out, which meant the only model was the saloon. It looked terrible.

Im not a lover of Baur's but that is a very good example.

yes sunny, he was saying "bring", as the o/p said "brought" instead of "bought"...then he himself said "of" instead of "have"sunnyr83 wrote:Where is P10mike correcting anything?? I can't see it. Thread spoilt.![]()

Two different things.
If it were a Baur "with a 318iS engine" then it wouldn't be a 318iS would it as a 318iS is more than just the engine!
The way you are describing it is that is a random Baur model just an M42 engine fitted.
As i said, its a 318iS with a Baur conversion ie a complete 318iS, engine, M technic suspension, rear discs, 51mm struts, sport seats etc etc etc which has had the option of the Baur conversion.
Baur's are not factory built models, they are conversions of 2dr saloons done a Baur in Stuttgart which were an option when ordering new.

And it takes a certain type of dedicated buyer who in 1990 ordered a new 318is and then spent the money on the Baur conversion walking past the ultimately cheaper, faster, better sounding and prettier 325i convertible.
I'd expect that a Baur iS would be a considered purchase and would be well looked after by its first owner.

The Baur conversion option was about £4k iirc?
