Hi all,
was wondering if anyone can advise me....
i have got chance to buy a E30..it is a 1991 318is baur tc,it have 12 months mot and had no adviosries on the mot yesterday!,it is silver but the paint work ok but not the best the inside just needs a good clean,...NO RUST IN THE NORMAL E30 places!!!,the only down side it that it could do with a new roof as there is a small leak and the rear screen is not good!!.
im hoping that you can point im in the right direction on weather to buy and what you all think it is worth???.
Thanks in advance...

If it's a genuine 318iS Baur, it's a rare model but not desirable. For some reason, there's not much love for the Baur bodyshell.
Before you buy any E30, make sure you've read the Buying Guide:

Around the 1000 pound mark. Less because it's a Baur, more because it's got the M42 engine. Go and see it, and if it has ANY rust, even the smallest blister, walk away.

offer him between £250,£450 you never know..he might say yes to £200.
good luck
good luck

They don't make bm's like this anymore!..They should.

When I'm buying a car I value it as follows:
Scrap value would be about £160
Plus £30 for each month of MOT (full MOT is therefore £360)
Plus the value of any road fund licence left to run
Minus the cost of putting right anything that is obviously wrong
...but offer the seller less to start with; you can always go up, not down.
However, with anything rare or unusual, your buyer might have rather differnt ideas.
As rs306 suggest above, the Baur registry would be your best bet, or just take a punt

I'm starting to warm towards the Baurs, but not enough to take one with a dodgy roof. Can you get a new roof for sensible money?

Not a lot of love for the Baurs. I don't really like them and I can't fathom out why??

there is/was a very clean unmolested 318is that used to go to the pompey meets when i was down that way.

one of the cleanest e30's i've seen ^
bought my white 318is shortly after seeing this car

Thanks Magpie, I still have my Baur and it looks the same as it did then, although various mechanical bits have been replaced, but not the roof. A replacement roof in the original material can be expensive which is why I've not done mine.
I use Renovo to clean, paint and re-proof the roof, AutoGlym is good too. The rear screen, depending on how bad it is can be improved if it's foggy but either of those products but there is some amazing expensive stuff which does a much better job.
Good luck with the purchase of the Baur, if you buy it, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Baurs are not well liked on this forum but are just as desirable to the general public...ive got one and i love the thing. Its light and its quick and a lot of fun.
My lapis blue baur 325 is only one of two ever made ...i like that about it. I saw the other in a scrap yard pic online and phoned the yard owner up and asked him if he would check the plate...the numbers were correct...so it looks like ive got the last rhd 325 baur in lapis blue...cool i think.
i am shortly going to sell it and have two buyers lined up that are willing to pay the £2000 im asking...so its not all bad news. Ive also been tild from a classic car dealer that im selling it too cheap at that price.
If you sell it to the right market (not this forum ) then you should get a good price for the rare "is" you have.
Its like everything , you can get the price you want if you find the right buyer.

I'd be tearing their arms off for 2 bags and not listening to those dealers.walrus1968 wrote:

Re the silver car. Due to the rareness it will be worth a premium but if it needs paint, that will knock it for six and good paint costs good money.
Without pics it's impossible to value really. How bad do you want the car?
If you want it bad, go to a grand to 1250 but don't for one instant think there will be much profit if you sell it on.
If you want it to sell on for a fast buck, you'll need to go in hard.
The problem with the baurs is that unless you find a buyer that actually prefers the look (and I've not met many), most wanting a soft top will go straight for the full BMW built convertible. And good ones of them (like you describe this car) start at 1500 - 2 bags.
