went to see a LSD advertised locally and found a yard full of old E30's,E34,E36 etc and tucked away in the corner i noticed a faded yellow thing....not sure if its a real CSL or just a "normal" E9, could not get too close as a big pack of dags were barking (yes even Middle East scrap yards have pikeys and dags) so more investigation required.

Who knows things about these cars? how do i identify what it is?

Image

then onwards to find a very good nick large case 4.1LSD, 100 quid thank you sir, oh and a BBS RS003 nut and waffle cap thrown in too, happy days, so far so good. then i spot his E30, not the nicest colour and a four door chromie, very clean and nice BBS RS003's on it. i notice the over sized rear tyres look a bit worn down, and a strange gearknob...open the bonnet to find...

RB26 with 500+hp at the wheels according to him, he also had an old school Skyline running closer to 800hp

next week he wil take me for a blast in the E30, video ready!

all in all a good day.

No desert in Bahrain!! We are basically a sandbar.

I would imagine his biggest problem is sucking up cats and small children!

His biggest nightmare is he needs to remove the engine and put a m10 in there for the annual MOT as modifications are not allowed! What a ball ache! But it was very well fitted and he took the time to tidy the wires etc. nice bit of kit, he had about 10 of these lumps hanging around.....hmmm one for me perhaps!!

Will see the man about the E9 later in the week.

a CSL is a lightweight version of the CS the L means light or "leicht" I think only UK cars got bumpers ? not sure but that could be part of the citypack ? I'm sure there's a deviant on here who knows !
the CSL had aluminuim panels, doors boot bonnet etc and none UK cars has plastic windows, that one looks to have the full aero package winkeye

even a solid CS is worth a small fortune now, so if the turd is rot free it's worth dragging home :D

I would love one !

Having spent a fair bit of time around a genuine csl, to me that one looks genuine.

All of the bits look to be there although a picture can be deceptive....

after some research i only need a magnet to see if its a real CSL, as the bonnet/boot etc will be aluminium and thus non ferrous.

So lets asssume it is a real one what sort of price are they worth in this condition (lets say for the sake of a guess its 90% complete and a non runner, but no rot)

He said fitting was quite easy, no need to cut anything, just home made engine mounts, he had modified the rear end quite a bit with a rad cooled diff, He did not say how much he had in the car, but i doubt much of the cash was arrived at by legal means if you know what i mean!!

I wil go and see the CSL guy this week, been looking at mike burroughs E9 and while not for the purists it is a very cool look - low and big BBS. If its "just" an E9 with an aero kit then i may try and go that route!

If indeed it is a genuine CSL with provable provenance I think the real question is does the vendor know what he has, csl's in good order i'm guessing would be between 70-150k. If you restore the vehicle to A1 condition you'll probably drop 20-30k (again a guess). So what do you think you can buy it for?

If it's real, you need to buy it - even if you have to mortgage vital organs.

The guy had a yard full of scrap BMW from E21's to X5's and most in between. chances are he knows what it is and a rough idea of the value.

if i can get it for a reasonable price then i will, but the problem will be authenticity as its VERY doubtful there are any documents for this car, so in effect this would lessen the value.

i guess this is of no matter if he does not want to sell it!

If Chassis number + vin tag only, then restore and serve/export it to the new victim, if not allowed by the destination country without docs, registration where you are should not be a problem, get a look at the above and confirm with BMW. Assuming of course as you say the scrap merchant will part with it...
